This much I can tell you...
1. It’s pretty much 99.99% you’ll be denied the first time you file.
2. It’s not much better on the appeal when you file it.
3. After the second denial get a SS Disability Attorney, if you haven’t already. They will take a percentage of “back pay” If approved, but work on contingency. Ideally it’s probably best to get one involved earlier since no up front out of pocket, and you can get advice if it will even be entertained by SS.
4. It will likely take around a year to get approved. If it’s a legitimate claim it will get approved, but will most likely entail a sit down meeting where a social security judge will review the case with you, and attorney, in person. They will ask questions to you at this time. The attorney should have kept up with all the paperwork for the legal side.

The standard 2 denials are almost guaranteed. It seems to be a built in checks, and balances, to make the frivolous claimants give up versus keep going.
Hope this helps.

This.

Irrelevant , her qualification will be based upon her ability to earn gainful income regardless of the pre-surgery work status.

SSDI disability is NOT tied to income.

She is 60 so she is presumed to be disabled.

She's a shoe in for benefits.

She does have to have worked enough in the past to have sufficient credits in the system, that could be a problem but the SS office can quickly tell you that.

SSDI doesn't give a damn how much you make or how much you have. It's purely whether you've paid enough into the system. Donald Trump could qualify for SSDI tomorrow.

No one is a shoe in for benefits. Vast majority of initial applications are denied.

I would ask your HR rep or someone. This doesn’t sound right.

Probably my best bet is to pay a lawyer. Ill just stuck it up. Thanks for opinion.

Most lawyers are going to tell you to go apply since the process isn’t that difficult and call them back if you get denied

Most, if not all, SSD attorneys are a contingency based so you won't have to pay an attorney fee unless she gets benefits awarded.

Attorneys fees come out of the payment or lump sum payment if there has to be an appeal. If you're not awarded SSD benefits, the attorney gets nothing.

Flat out wrong. If you don't have enough credits in the system you get ZERO.

I used a company called Allsup. I highly recommend them. It’s not a free service though.

I have a friend who found a website dealing with that issue. She has multiple health issues. Within a couple of days an attorney contacted her, wanting to take the case. And she got a large check.

If your spouse can find a similar site, you may have attorneys coming out of the woodwork wanting to help.

Just curious. If she wasn’t working before, why does she now need disability income?
