Remember when there were threads about Boomers being the problem with social security? Not so fast.
Not slamming them, just stating facts.

Turns out it's not baby boomers taking the most from Social Security

However, the Center for Retirement Research found the boomer cohort born between 1946 and 1964 will actually have paid more into the system than they will receive in benefits.

There is a group of retirees, however, who did receive more money than they contributed: people who lived through the Great Depression of the 1930s. That's because they generally worked for fewer years before collecting benefits.

Won't this gap continue to get wider over time? Or do I have that wrong?

I was thinking that, too. Most boomers are just in their first bit of collecting. No way of predicting the average lifespan 20 years from now and when they stop collecting.

I'll tell you what group will take more and that's the government working sector.
I guarantee you 99% of government workers retire earlier than their private worker counterparts and will suck SS out of its funds.
This is in addition to the cushy pensions they'll get, many starting as early as their upper 40s in age
