Taking down the "bad monuments de jour" is a slippery slope
Did you read anything I wrote?

So what news outlet can we expect to see your article in tomorrow?

Not from New Orleans but common sense would tell me that people are pissed that politicians care so much about a fricking monument when there are much more important and pressing issues in the city that they should be focusing on.
Literally nailed it on the head.

None. This was really just to gain an overall understanding of the thought process behind the people who feel most upset by the taking down of the monuments and see an overall distribution of same.
The funniest posters are the ones mad at me for asking honest questions and reciprocating to make sure I understand where people are coming from.
Y all take it easy.

Even if you support the mainstream leftist narrative that these monuments and all imagery, such as the confederate flag, of pre-civil war south and the post war years is nothing but symbolism related to racism and slavery, then this should still bother you.
The reason it should bother is because the marxists on the progressive left and their globalist puppet masters are what is called year zero fanatics. Seriously, bing or duck it.
The gist is they want to erase our history so they can better institute the mechanisms they think they will need to usher in their supposed utopia. The year zero philosophy dates back to at least the French Revolution where they literally not only tried erasing history but actually created a new calendar.
Hence, the name year zero.
Bottom line, if the get away with doing this to controversial things that you may not agree with, the how long until its something else that you do cherish or agree with.
After all, it not like the Marxist lefts isn't constantly changing the definition of words or even history to effect their agenda.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_zero
"The idea behind Year Zero is that all culture and traditions within a society must be completely destroyed or discarded and a new revolutionary culture must replace it, starting from scratch. All history of a nation or people before Year Zero is deemed largely irrelevant, as it will ideally be purged and replaced from the ground up."

I read the entire link you provided and I don't see any mention of your so-called year zero theory.

For the record, I'm not for tearing down a statue of Stalin if it were erected in Seattle despite the fact he's responsible for the death of 10s of millions
If you tried a year ago to tear that one down the liberals would have been up in arms about it.

Why care?
History and historic means something.
Take it away and in a little while the meaning is obscured.
Ask the Taliban.

so you just feel like it's become an essential part of the character of the city? and the city is diminished with having them removed.

For the record, I do believe that the only real argument against removing the statues is the overly PC argument and I actually agree with it. Mitch is doing this to get name recognition outside of NOLA and it's so apparent that it's laughable.
He responded to an open letter in the Times Pic with a letter in the Washington Post. How fricking obvious can you be you sad-arse attention whore
But I will say this. You guys sound like a bunch of gapping vaginas. Seriously, I can hear a fricking echo. Is statues that NONE of you have a damn about a month ago. Now Mitch is raping your heritage? Give me a break.
Be truthful and stick to the original argument. Mitch is an opportunist and is wasting money and time so he can get a Washington job. At least I would respect you guys more.
And confine the whining to 10 threads instead of 100. frick. Enough already.
TLDR: id rather them not be removed but I'm not going to cry about "muh huritage" when I'm just mad at the Fing mayor.
There are tons of terrible arguments being bandied about, but this is the one that bothers me the most, most specifically because you feel the need to suggest people are being pussies, yet your demeanor is one that won't stand against something you actually don't agree with. It's this odd personality trait that has popped up in the last few years that seems to suggest you can shame a person that is virtuously defending a position into backing down by suggesting they're whining. Doesn't matter what they're opposing...simply calling them a name seems to stand in place of a counter argument.
You state yourself you see Mitch's motives and find them laughable. You also state that you'd rather them not be taken down. Then you suggest standing up to blatant motives is...wrong?
Regardless of the myriad reasons given for why people would rather the statues have stayed put, wouldn't simply opposing transparent political bullshite be enough? If not, doesn't that kind of passivism only give those behaving like despots more room to roam, and if that becomes the norm for the populace at what point WOULD warrant an actual response that would not be called pussified? Wouldn;t this behavior you're demonstrating place the populace in a position of NEVER wanting to stand up for fear of being shamed into going along?
