My daughter is on the spectrum. Every day is a different day for her teacher. I would love to see your IEP for her.

Not sure I'm on board 100%, but it is important to realize that we don't just have diseases anymore, we have industries and movements built around them.
You can poo-poo ADHD, or autism, but the amphetamine plants are all built, Wapner's been through make-up and the litigants sworn, etc. - good luck slowing down that behemoth.

I was diagnosed. Was I just a bad arse kid? I think so. It caused me to go to kindergarten twice. Fast forward 8 years and I’m just mindlessly eating Ritalin. Now I’m short as frick. I told my mom in high school I wasn’t taking it anymore.

I think some doctors saw real adhd in actual patients with syndromes then saw glimmers of this said behavior in everyday normal kids. Tried the same drugs that worked on the handicapped and found some success then ran with it.
I listened to or read a psychiatrist who runs a school for only kids with adhd. He said, “what if this trait we are trying to subdue is a trait that gave us leaders, thinkers, inventors, and legendary heroes of the past.” That’s a very watered down quote.
I often think this when I see kids being called add/adhd and can’t help but wonder what’s being eliminated for a behavior that fits a structured school setting?

I was born in '81. I talked too much in 1st grade and the teacher was tired of it. She suggested to my parents that I be medicated. My parents told her to kick rocks and told me if I didn't shut the frick up in class I would be beat.

My son made straight F's in the 6th grade. Not bad, just not focused.
Started medication after diagnosis of ADHD and he almost made the honor roll the next 6 weeks after starting the medication. We started implementing systematic daily plans and school procedures. He stayed on the medication for 1 year, then we took him off. He Graduated with a 3.72 GPA and is entering the Air Force next week.. Great kid, just needed a little help and educated us on what our son needed and how we should as parents do our part to help him.
