So, what would happen if China attacked Tawain?

I know we send a ton of weapons to Tawain. But I kinda doubt they could stand toe to toe with China for more than maybe the very very short term.
Do we have some kind of treaty or agreement to defend them?

We have assured their defense but there is no formal declaration
China would level the entire island with land based cruise missiles and possibly artillery
followed by paratroopers and seaborne invasion troops

China could level Taiwan but their amphibious capability is nil. But never gonna happen. China is about the long game and using economic and political leverage. They'll get most of what they want in the region without ever firing a shot.

It's never going to happen because our economies are too tied together, but if it did I think we'd be obligated to help Taiwan.
