South Dakota taxpayers paid $450k for a new anti-meth PSA campaign. And here's what the state came up with

quote:

"The tagline is: I'm on meth," says the governor of South Dakota, ON VIDEO.

Well, the campaign is sure to achieve the state's goal of getting people talking about an important issue.

Seems like some minor oversight. I could be wrong.

I think you're wrong. I think the campaign is trying to show its consumer that people fitting the descriptions of the people shown in the ads are the kinds of people who do the drug. That is, meth is such a big problem that "normal" people do it.

They’ve achieved their message then. I’m 100% convinced they are on meth if they thought this was a good idea.

It's going to get 10x the publicity of some more normal ad campaign. They'll get a ton of free publicity from it.

I think you’re right and honestly I think it’s good to show normal people are using too, I just hope it doesn’t normalize it as well.

That is what we in the biz call wordplay, and no, it's not an oversight. The phrase has multiple meanings, intentionally, both of which are satisfying different communication objectives.

South Dakota is a beautiful state. 5 national parks.

Now, there's not much in the way of cities, but some people like that.

If that cowboy in that last picture was holding a cigarette, the nation will be up in arms that we are now continuing to promote cigarettes among youth
