Because the car occupants don’t want to breathe the cars fumes. Trucks lift the exhaust above the load because they can’t pipe it all the way to the back.

So you don't have to breathe exhaust when you are loading and unloading?

First part is true...second part, he's talking about pick up trucks.

There isn't really a functional reason behind the layout. And there are cars with exhausts to the side....and trucks with exhausts to the back.
There isn't a rhyme or reason for everything.

Now can someone explain why men's buttons are on the right and women's are on the left? (On shirts/jackets, but same as men's on the pants) do they make last handed sort of pants, or does it not bother left handed people since it's always been that way?

You ever try to hook up a trailer with the exhaust in your face?

I need it off to the side on my F-250 for coal rolling on obnoxious bicyclers

It’s so you can try to look between their buttons and see bra when they are wearing a blouse.

Because most people are right handed and back in the day men dressed themselves while women had someone else help them - made it easier for a right handed helper of the buttons were on the other side.

This is a legacy deal dating back to the day when men were dressed almost exclusively by women. The buttons were reversed on men’s clothing so that it was comfortable and normal for the women to dress the men as they would be accustomed to dressing themselves.

Men would dress themselves, most people were right handed, therefore their buttons were on the right.

Wealthy Women had maids, and if someone else was dressing you, those buttons are on THEIR right.

It’s an anachronistic holdover.
