So is there anything we as a society can do about appliance quality?

Been in my new house for about 3.5 years. Bought all new stuff when I moved in. No OT baller so maybe I just need to start buying Viking fridges or something?
Vizio TV literally attempted to turn on by itself in the middle of the night and started boot looping. No storm or anything and it was on a surge protector anyway. I had to replace the motherboard myself.
Frigidaire fridge. Freezer section wouldn't stay cold. Had to take it apart and reposition the water line. It was dripping and freezing the circulation fan (fixed that myself). Control panel also went out and was replaced under warranty.
Whirlpool Oven. Main board went haywire and took a couple fuses out along with it. Ended up replacing display panel also when not needed. Apparently clock error meant the main board and not the actual clock (display).
And today's frustration. Samsung dryer.... 1.5 years in had to change the belt tensioner because samsung doesn't believe in bearings and thinks metal bushings rotating on metal shafts are a good thing. Now 3.5 years in, the drum support rollers failed (same issue of no bearings). Bought some rollers online and it immediately started eating the new one. Not sure if the back plate is warped or maybe I need to buy genuine rollers so they last for 3 years as opposed to one day. So now after taking it apart for the 3rd straight day, I think it's time to just throw it in the trash and buy some other piece of junk that's not going to last. RANT OVER!
Any suggestion for a dryer that might actually work for a few years before a have to repair it? Gas preferably.

and yet our parents, on average had appliances last 25-30 years before breaking
my dad had his white westinghouse a/c unit last 37 years and it only failed from the metal cabinet rusting out letting the fan come loose

Damn baw, I need you to come look at the ice maker in my refrigerator. It keeps freezing up every two or three weeks and I have to scrape the ice out and reset it.

That's what I would like help with. What brands? I get that Samsung is shite now but Whirlpool and Electrolux own most of what is out there. If I go on lowes and look up the highest rated dryers, you still see people complaining about this stuff. Speedqueen was supposed to be awesome, people complain about that brand now. This seems like an industry issue not brand based.

There will be some percentage of today's appliances still working just fine 25 years from now, and people will think our appliances were built like tanks.

You may want to consider a home warranty. In the past 3 years we have had the ac, fridge, and oven replaced. We pay about 40.00 a month.

Old appliances had fewer bells and whistles to go out and had less plastic to wear out. They absolutely did last longer.

Dude Samsung has their hands in a lot of different shite
Not just TVs and cellphones. They get into all of that, appliances, ship building, life insurance, hotels...they're into everything.
BTW Samsung fridge I got 5 years ago is still working just fine

I think we should start a DIY movement for appliances and other machinery, much like the one that exists for electronics. Design, share, collaborate on development. Use off-the-shelf parts or work toward standardized components that can be fabricated without expensive specialized machinery.
It would take a long time and obviously the resulting products wouldn't appeal to everyone, but personally I think it would be awesome if more things in my house were "open source". If a part breaks, I don't have to pay 1000% markup because only the manufacturer supplies it. Instead, a bunch of mom-and-pop shops could fabricate and stock these parts.
Just a thought, and maybe a stupid one.

It was a $1200 wall oven, I don't think it's too much to ask for it to work for 5 years before needing $500 in repairs. Back to my other point, they own or supply a ton for other brands.

You want it to last forever with no issue?
My whirlpool washer/dryer was more than 10 years old when I left them at the last house.
Still had to do maintenance like replacing heating elements and such.

Been in my home 15 years and have only bought a new dishwasher. My first Vizio is working after 9 years and another is 6 years old. No problems.
