I live in Old Metairie at Cleary and the Lake and I'd say the visibility is about 1/8 mile. And I brought my dog for a walk and the burning smell is pretty strong. I got a sneezing spell from the smell and hurried back inside.

There’s a marsh fire in NO East near Michoud that has burning underground for a few weeks…they say it is peat burning, which gives of a “burning plastic” odor

I also live in Old Metairie, Cleary and W Napoleon. Walking the dog this morning, the smoke wasn't too bad. Last night, though, walking the dog and my eyes were starting to burn a little.

If you live anywhere near Cleary, or the lake, you are not in Old Metairie.

perhaps someone should create a separate thread and we can bring in an expert to define what Old Metairie boundaries really are. This needs to be put to rest. Is there a Sonic in Old Metairie where this argument can be settled? Maybe just meet at Oscars and brawl in the streets.
