From Scott Walker, WDSU:
quote:

I was contacted this morning by the sister of Cardell Hayes, the man accused of killing former Saint Will Smith. This is her message: "I would like for the public to know that my brother Cardell Hayes is not a killer and only did what he did out of self defense. Cardell is a very humble sweet loving and caring young man. My nephew, his son CJ, is going crazy not knowing why he can't see his father. That's all he knew."

Great. Now we're getting character testimony from a family member. Just what this thread needs.

To me, all these statements from lawyers/friends/family do nothing to move the needle in my mind.

If they want to talk facts, then I will listen. If they are just talking about "He wuz a gud boy" or "He acted in self defense" or "He was senselessly murdered over a minor wreck" then that doesn't tell me anything.

If a lawyer or someone says "We have evidence that Smith was the aggressor" or "We have evidence that Hayes intentionally shot the wife" or something like that then I will listen.

How long would a toxicology report on alcohol take to complete? A week? I know it takes longer on certain drugs, etc.

You seem stable in this discussion.

Simple to Smiths grieving father, "Tell him his son hit and ran and then threatened a guy with a gun and ended up dead"

The family on both sides should be grieving and biased. I see you had no complaints on the character comments from Smiths family and teammates, but you do with Hayes

The movie I think about it the more I think Smith's father's version of things is more likely to be accurate. I picture Hayes to be a psychotic maniac and I'm confident that I've got him pegged. Will bumped him by accident and probably didn't even realize he hit him. Hayes slammed his vehicle into Smith's endangering everyone on the road. In fact he hit him so hard that the SUV hit the impala in front of him. Do you know how hard you have to hit somebody to make them hit the car in front of them? Also there was no way it was strictly about the damage to the back of Hayes Hummer. How much damage did the second collision cause? I hope Hayes rots in jail

Ben Chodeman, you seem incredibly mentally unstable. I hope you seek counseling.

Insinuating that Will was drinking, but "not inebriated enough to not be able to drive"
