He was threatened by Hayes.

What's wrong about him getting a gun?
He had his wife to protect.

Im not. Still dont know enough facts to know who was right or wrong, but there are some facts there that could support his innocence.

But if someone says they have a gun and reach for something, I'd probably shoot them too. Being a Saints football player doesn't give Smith a pass for being wrong, or having a misjudgment.

Was Hayes' firearm legal? Was it registered?

I wonder if the DA will argue that Stand your Ground doesn't apply to him because he was in the commission of an "unlawful act" ie the possession of an illegal firearm.

heck, within about 12 hours.

though we heard some implication that stuff from the scene may have been slow to be documented/produced, and smith is tight with police while hayes is the opposite.

its still very early, and stories in new orleans has its share of twists to stories.

Could have just been a preventive measure.

Like, hey dummy I have a gun. Go away.

That would have been a good time to leave. But the thug didn't. He shot him in the back.

Why is this so complicated?
It's not that complicated.

Sounded to me like it wasn't registered. Whoever the cop that was interviewed yesterday said that their initial efforts to verify if the gun was registered didn't confirm anything and that they'd have to do some more digging.

And what if the guy feared for his life? Are you guys going to give him a pass like to give police officers who fear the same?
