Ten years from now when we find out too late that these microbes are what killed the dinosaurs and became dormant, on purpose, waiting for the next dominate species to rise before, well, we know how it is going to end.

Well...these guys appear to have been dormant for ~40 million years before the time of the last dinosaurs.
So, I think we're safe on that front.
(Unless you're talking about Denver the Last Dinosaur. He's our friend and a whole lot more. (Whatever that meant in an 80s cartoon theme song.))
Man, there were a lot of dinosaur themed cartoons in that time period. The above, "Dino-Riders," and "DinoSaucers."
