I can't believe someone hasn't worked a deal to get the scrap metal. There has to be tons of good steel in there.
Look at the roller coaster and all the railings. It's in really good shape- the metals anyway.

Astroworld used to be more of a destination than Disney World when that was the only Disney park and they were working on Epcot.
Astroworld had a water park before Disney.
When I was a kid we went to Disney for only two days, now you can't do anything without staying a week. There were no Disney properties to stay on either except for the hotel connected to tram.

When they closed Astroworld almost every ride was taken down and sold, here they just said "F-it" I want to say the Batman ride and one other were moved though.
I know the Batman rollercoaster is gone for sure.

Astroworld was so easy to go to as well. You can make a weekend trip out of it. So much fun.
Excalibur was my first coaster and Viper was my first loop. I loved that place.
It's last few months of operation it was free for people with Louisiana licenses, so we used it, especially with half of my friend living in Houston in those months.

I went to Jazzland/6 Flags a few times - it was a fun getaway for a day, but nothing more. The heat and trash running around in that place made it less than desirable. I went the last summer it was open before Katrina hit and decided that it'd be my last time unless there was massive expansion.
Astroworld, though, I damn near cried when I heard it was shutting down. That place was badass. Now it's just another shopping center. I may make a weekend trip next sumemr to ATL or DAL to go hit up some rollercoasters - it's been too long.

Nope.
River Country at Fort Wilderness campground opened in 1976.
WaterWorld opened in 1983.

I'd love to know how much money was wasted on this thing.

Is that alligator real? If so, yikes.

Astroworld was the best. When I was in middle school was the place to go and talk to girls. Me and my best friend would go, immediately go to the basketball game to win a mini basketball. Then walk around the part and "accidentally" bounce the ball and hit hotties. Worked like a charm.

To be fair, it looked like that before the storm too.

why would you build that in the East?
They thought having an amusement park would overcome location.
Sad part is, this wasn't the first failed experiment in new Orleans east. They didn't learn the lesson of the giant mall and ice rink.
But you can't overcome the population of the East. The trash element pervaded that place hard and it went to shite.

I was always mad they didn't name it Six Flags Jazzland.
I had a season pass to Jazzland its first year and went to Six Flags a few times. Six Flags was actually pretty legit for a place in New Orleans. Though I was about 14.

Jazzland wasn't around long enough to have any history here. It's not Pontchartrain Beach.

Maybe it's just not my thing but did you really watch a 40 minute video of a guy in a fedora wandering around an abandoned theme park?

They took what was operable. I'd imagine the insurance company had something to do with it as well.
Can't compare those 2 situations.
