OP missed the opportunity to flip the script. Should have immediately told kids that BF was a little shite growing up and that because Santa put him on the naughty list and never gave him toys, he thinks Santa isn't real. Don't be like him because when you're bad and quit believing, Santa quits coming.

Best solution is to go find a real badass. Have the badass dress up in a very believable Santa outfit.
Then have the badass Santa enter the house and beat the ever loving crap out of the boyfriend right in front of the children. After the ambulance and the Santa leave, tell the children that Santa gets really mad at people who don't believe in him.

If the child was somehow that self aware to process the weight of that comment that quickly their first reaction isn't going to be to burst into tears screaming and crying. They are going to look to their parents to see what happens next.
