Yeah, his son is still in school, but working part time doing some of this work for his school.
Hang in there man. Eventually it'll all work out for you.

Exactly how I feel
I make about half of what you make, $85k but I live in Kentucky so its not too expensive here. But between taxes and being aggressive on student loans I have no money to actually have a life. I can't afford shite. Have to budget every last penny I earn and be frugal. I passed on buying a $15 antenna for my TV today because I didn't think I could afford it. Netflix is all I have right now.
Never get to go out on the weekends because I can't afford it.

College is very expensive now. Even a cheap and average school like LSU is expensive when you add in living to the expenses.
I knew quite a few people while at lsu with student loans. When I went to a&m, way more people had loans. 75 to 100k for a degree had plenty of people borrowing money.

Pharmacy school was 35,000 per year x4 years and then add rent and living expenses and things and there's no way to not take out loans .

Yes. And even if your college is paid for cost of living is 7-10k/year. It's insanity.
Student loan debt is a gigantic problem in this county. Mr. Trump said he would tackle student loan debt when he was elected -- so far his administration has only pandered to companies that prey on students (cough*navient*cough).

Holy frick good lord. Hope you got a good paying job now?
Posted on 4/22/17 at 5:16 pm to FLBooGoTigs1
I'm 120k in the hole and I had 75% of undergrad paid for and 100% of law school paid for. Cost of living is insane. Not to mention the legal job market blows. I had to start my own firm just to get experience in my specialty

Damn that is alot of debt to try and overcome when you are just starting out. If you don't mind me asking what kind of monthly payment is that?
Posted on 4/22/17 at 5:20 pm to TheOcean
older folks have no idea unless they're paying for their kids right now. 1-2br apartments even in places like BR or Lafayette will run you at least 500-1000 a month, before utilities. factor in food, gas, misc costs along with tuition and books and you are talking 7-10k a semester for state school. with the current job market and emphasis on graduate degrees, even if you can get through undergrad unscathed you will most likely be taking out loans for your graduate degree.

Depends on your income and whether or not the loans are private or not. Private loans (navient) literally rape students with the interest they charge. Not to mention I get about 20 phone calls a day from them harassing me. It's truly criminal that companies like navient even exist.

Married with kids and still paid $140,000+ in taxes last year....that sucks!!!!
Posted on 4/22/17 at 5:21 pm to GRTiger
It is pretty awesome! Taxes kill though
Posted on 4/22/17 at 5:23 pm to FLBooGoTigs1
Yeah, I'm at 130k. Single. Pay 2,000 a month for my loans. It's a bitch. But I've got a mortgage and retirement going now. It would be nice to have the extra cash but I would probably blow it at the casinos or dumb stuff anyway.
The big thing is I make too much to deduct the interest from the loans. That needs to change. Paid like 20k in interest alone last year.

Everyone knows it's a huge problem, but there's nothing done about it. Too much lobbying from the student loan companies and too much money to be made for the universities/student loan companies.
I routinely talk to clients that have a 50k+ year pension, health insurance coverage, SSI, and a great life insurance policy from when they worked some state government job for 20 years. Our generation won't have a bucket to piss in -- and we're starting out on average 30k in the hole after college.
