we won't see the brunt of the problems the student loan mess brings for a generation or two. educated people will be settling down a lot later in life...they'll have less or no kids at all, will buy a home much later, will take less vacations, buy used cars, etc. meanwhile the government incentivizes morons to have 8 kids, all on the tax payer's dime.

Avoid debt and your good.

And don't have kids with multiple women out of wedlock. Seen this far too many times to count.

Zero incentive to change the current system. Economy is doing well and the rich are getting richer. Then we'll inherit a system that is completely corrupt and economically drained

Enough negativity from me -- I'm going to go drown my sorrows in a legal book

That's understandable but 100k debt to get an undergrad degree doesn't make much sense

And yet let's give all the poors free college right. Gotta love it. Bust your arse in school. Bust your arse in life. Take out loans to make a better life in the future and get stuck with loans. Yet there are those people that don't do shite and yes now let's give them some free college.

Graduating debt free was one of the best things I ever did in life. Working through college sucked balls, but totally worth it in the end.

12 years later and I have friends that are still paying off college debts.

i agree. at least with a professional degree you're pretty much guaranteed a job until you're old as shite.

I would think having that much debt right out of college it would take along time before you could qualify for a good home loan to buy a house.

My buddy does. 31 years old. Clears $220k/year as a consultant. Works about 60 hours per month. He travels around the globe in first class....in a different country at least once a month. No kids. Has a couple "lady friends" but nothing serious. Lives in a 1500 sq foot apartment over-looking the Pacific Ocean and plays about 20 rounds of golf per month.

Sounds like someone that had his act together very early on and never took his eye off the prize.

Everyone knows it's a huge problem, but there's nothing done about it. Too much lobbying from the student loan companies and too much money to be made for the universities/student loan companies.

The universities are in bed with the government/lenders

I went to TCU and it was $35k my freshman year in 2006, 11 years later and its $55k, a 57% increase in 10 years.

It's not like the education is any better, no, the tuition increases are used to build fancy new buildings and statues and shite to attract high income students while fricking over the rest of the country.

The schools know they can increase their tuition every year because they know students will just borrow more.

The problem is easy access government student loans which the greedy universities take advantage of. Market forces cant exist

Pushing my two sons that way also. Myself and my brother went the military route then college. My brother has no college loans and the only reason I do was to have extra money while supporting a family and going to school at the same time.

Unless you have some advantages over graduates from cheaper schools sounds like you made a poor investment. Schools like TCU should be for either kids with scholarships or wealthy parents
