Deals like this tells me a ton of people are defaulting on their student loans.

No doubt

I mean I even defaulted on a couple, but I had no choice. When you are only making about $2200 a month take home and your student loan minimums combined are $1400 you have to pick and choose

All 14 of my lenders are offering some kind of settlement. I picked the settlement I did because it was my highest balance, highest interest loan.

12 of my lenders are cool that I am putting 100% my resources toward that one, and I told them, when I am done with it, you guys will get lots of my money.

But there is one lender who is not OK with that and badger me on the phone. I told them they are getting my money last.

Just curious, how large was/is your student debt and what type of degree did you get?

wtf. what do they say

Most of my lenders are cool and I have personal relationships with all of the individuals assigned to my accounts.

But one of them are total dicks. The thing is your loans get transferred around all the time to new servicers because your loans are essentially assets that are bought and sold.

I got a new servicer last week for one loan and they called me. I told them what I am doing, that I am paying about $2500 a month, stretching myself absolutely thin, across various loans I have. And there isn't much I can do right now to give them money.

They were asking for like $5000 down and $300 a month and I said no way. I asked them for something reasonable and they wouldn't do it. Finally they got upset that they wouldn't be getting any money from me that day and started to say I was a deadbeat, a loser, one who doesn't honor commitments, one who doesn't keep his promises, etc.

I said, "I pay more in student loans a month than you make in a month" and he got really mad. He said he would go to a judge with that comment to show that I am abusive, sit down, and laugh his arse off with said judge. But I know this lender has no power to garnish me so I said go right ahead. Then I told him to frick himself with a pinecone and hung up.

Why so many lenders? I have zero experience with student loans. One lender can't give you the whole chunk?

Why don't you consolidate your loans and look for a better rate?

What do you do that you are 7 years into your professional life and only make 85 after racking up 140 in debt? Is TCU that shitty of an ROI or did you frick up or something?

Know a single 33 year old woman who has a $600K house and $1M in the bank. She does nothing but work, eat and sleep though. Not sure that's the life you want.

Know another guy who owns a house that's far more ramshackle, but in a desirable area, with far less money in the bank, but he enjoys going to clubs and sleeping with randoms. But he seems to be getting tired of it.

$140k

I wouldn't have even gone into that much debt but I made the football team at TCU and decided to stick around for 5 years. With the vague possibility of a scholarship down the line(yeah right) but the coaches and such would always mention it as a possibility when I was a senior but it didn't happen(I wasn't good)

Degree was in broadcasting. I tried radio for a bit but was only making $10 an hour out of college. Then I moved to TV, and was making about $30k at first. The thing is you make no money in the news side of TV unless you are an anchor/meteorologist. Because I am good with numbers I got into the media analytics side when I was in Iowa and have done that ever since and am climbing the ladder. The media analytics directors in Top 10 markets make over $150k. I make $85k in a Top 50 market right now and hope to eventually move up one day but I love where I am right now so I plan on giving them a good number of years. At least 5.

Loans are assets, so various investors will buy up loans in packages. These loans may start in one source but be divided up and sold. Over time my loans have been scattered over 14 lenders as of today, but I probably only opened loans with 3 or 4 of them when I was in college.

It's not worth the trouble. I won't get a lower interest rate so I don't bother.

It's the industry I went in. It's not one where you make good money off the bat. Watch your local newscast during the week. The only people you see who make any money are the weekday anchors and meteorologists. The reporters, the producers, the camera operators, etc. make low money.

It has to be something you want to do because its fun, not because the money is good. You can make good money, you just have to put in your time.

This all adds up

When I had my 16 gallon tank a couple years ago it was the ongoing maintenance costs that give me hesitation today

Probably $50-$100 a month which is a good amount of cash

One of my buddys has a son going to school and he's getting a broadcasting degree as well. He wants to work behind the scenes as a statistician.

I'm single and pay more than this in taxes every year...but I'm mid 40s so being single isn't what it was when I was mid 20s.
The least amount of drama in my life the better.

I'd rather go watch my son play baseball than go out drinking any day.

That's pretty mediocre anywhere you live. You have no idea what awesome is, it starts well north of $15k/mo.

Statistician is basically what I do at the station

If you are good with numbers its something you can do. Problem is not every station has one. Plus you have to start in a small market. I got lucky starting in market #89 in Iowa but even in that one I was making $30k but the sad part is that was more than the reporters and producers were making. I made $50k in Seattle as an analytics analyst(not a director), and $85k as the analytics director in the market I am in now. A couple years ago I talked to the guy who does the job I do at a station in Dallas and he makes $130k. It can pay well eventually just have to work your way up

While I agree 150 to 200 is not baller, saying it's mediocre is retarded

I might get one next year. Just depends on how things go

I want a dog too. Will have to pick one. Probably the dog so I can get that and then save for the tank. Tank/light that I want is $1349 on BulkReefSupply. Then you need the rock, sand, powerheads, RODI system, salt, various equipment, etc.
