Criminals fearing civilian gun ownership/possession is a deterrent, regardless if I ever use a gun for self-defense.

No basis in data? So when the CDC studied and reported on defensive gun usage and stated the data supported DGU's on the balance, how do you get to "no basis in data"?

Well, regarding home protection because of what I said:
Strictly numbers speaking you're likely never going to do so.

I'm pointing out that people toss around this notion of "needing" a gun for the home and that has no basis in the data.

Eta: and since this thread was created with the intent of showing what is statistical vs what is emotional regarding gun crime, it seemed relevant.

1 million home invasions per year says otherwise. Check the stats. Now granted not every person will be inside during the invasion but if everytime someone was inside and killed the invader, along with the media reporting it, it might cut that million down.

It’s important to note, IIRC, that the rate of these shootings is increasing, though.

But since we’re only supposed to use our feelings according to the left, I feel like the divisive media is mostly to blame, and then mental health issues play a somewhat significant part.

Solution? Hard to say. Less media glorification and division is a good start. But taking step one down Mao, Stalin, and Hitler’s path of murder isn’t it.

Let's say 1200 over 53 years...

That 22.6/year.

Pretty sure there are a few other potential risks that have a greater likelihood that that.

When one happens they include the inner cities and scream THERE'S BEEN 250 THIS YEAR.

In the very next sentence they'll tell you "it's all white people" doing mass shootings.

Don’t bring your fancy statistics and logic to this popular topic, neither garners Democrats votes!

Disagree.

Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million...in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008

How many have died in commercial airlines since 1966? It's fairly low, but it's not like the airline industry should just blow off a low number of deaths.

do you propose we suspend air travel?

In year(2018), Chicago,Baltimore,St.Louis,New Orleans,Newark, and Detroit zoomed by those numbers, just those cities, and we could of included several more, which would of probably doubled the mass murder numbers of 53 years..

Inner Cities 1 year>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 53 years of mass shootings

Wow....just fricking wow..
