So there is a bunch of tiny poop debris all over your tub? How often do you hit that thing with some bleach?

Tampons and pads are still a major culprit too. I don’t know who the hell teaches women to flush them. But it’s a major issue.

I have some friends that are engineers for sewer departments. This is absolutely nothing remotely new and routine for them. Not even sure why it’s a story?
poor system design can contribute to this as well
having vac trucks and the ability to take systems down and drain them can make "de-ragging" much easier
when i see these articles all I think is how bad these systems are designed and how poorly they are being operated if they are letting the rags get that big before cleaning them out

Indeed. I haven't used a single Cottonelle since I had the inspiration to sit on the edge of my tub and use the handheld shower as a bidet for final cleanup. It was life-changing.
Hell, we splurged and bought a bidet toilet seat for our master bathroom. It's been life changing and I now hold onto a poop as long as I can if I am away from the house.

Without a doubt. I don’t have a clue how any modern American system would not have a fairly easy method to clean out the non biodegradeable material.

I only use the cottonelle kind as they dont irrate my bum bum. Im sure they are made similar to their TP if not just a tad thicker.
I would think the chinese knock offs need to be tested more though to make sure.

Because most of the US water and sewer infrastructure is at least half a century old. It takes billions of dollars to update a major city. I've been to big conferences and pump manufacturers love to show off their new grinder pumps or vortex pumps that pass solids. The problem is it pretty much just pushes the problem downstream and you still have to deal with it at some point.

yep, bet it the bar screen at the plant or the mixers ragging up it all goes somewhere, but the name of the game is send it downstream nowadays

It might, but you’re going to deal with some shitty reception

Sounds like a job for Mike Rowe's next episode.
He actually did have a show related to this issue. San Francisco. 3 huge silo type things (3 or so stories high). A guy would have to flush out the contents of one. Mike asked what other two were for. Power backup in case the city lost power.

That’s what I was wondering. He clearly says he hangs over the tub, not pulls the hose to the toilet. That’s f’n disgusting.

I once managed a restaurant and during a Friday night rush, the sewer backed up. There are drains behind the bar so literal shite soup backed up and the bartender was walking through it while he tried to figure out what was going on. That whole side of the restaurant instantly smelled like a rotten port-a-potty. We called a plumber and he snaked it from the restaurant to where it made a 90 turn at the street. I was talking to him about and he said it was sewer rats collecting at the 90. He said that’s always the case. In my head, I’m thinking real rats are in the pipe and I asked how they end up in there and only then did he explain that the sewer rats are plumber lingo for dirty tampons.
