I think it was Cool Point on Caddo Lake.
Used to sleep in the back of a truck at Cool Point with no camper and a sleeping bag with my dad between running yo-yo’s and trot lines.
Good times but we froze our asses off.

Me too. Lots of good memories with Dad and friends at Cool Point.

Damn good restaurant. Seems out of place right there on Airline.

His son, Kenny Wayne Shepherd is touring with his band. I had some friends from home (country near Shreveport) who went and saw him last year and really enjoyed it.

Murrell’s
The original has been closed a while. It was my favorite place to go back to when I went home. It was the perfect old fashioned, all night diner with Green Goddess dressing and pie. Some of those ladies that worked there had probably been there fore 40 years.

El Chicos
I think they are all closed now. The food was probably average at best, but it's the only Mexican food I knew in HS in the 70s. I think I went to all of them at some time or another. Sad when they closed the Madison Park one. That area was once so nice. No telling what it is now.
And Thrill Hill has been smoothed out!

Buying shoes at Toy Fair
I feel like every kid, including my little elementary school self got Easter shoes there in the 60s. Then I took my son there to get his first pair of Stride Rites.
All the Shreve Square bars that I went to in HS
Circle in the Square was our favorite.

Has no one mentioned the Sandpiper out close to the airport. They never carded either. It felt a little sleezy to my naive 17 year old self.
Selbers was where I always saw Santa as a kid and it seemed like the display in A Christmas Story, even though I'm sure it wasn't.
It was such a big deal when we got Southpark Mall and I think it's a church now.
Always got Southern Maid donuts after a concert at the Hirsch.

The Madison Park one closed in 2013, but there is one left in the area on Bert Kouns that was built in the 90s. Last went there about 15 years ago. It had once been okay, but it was so shitty that day that I swore to never go again, and I haven't. It still draws a crowd, so maybe it improved.

That El Chico location was nicely renovated into Ono's Hawaiian a few years ago. That closed, then Pepito's Mexican opened and drew crowds until an ownership/management squabble led to closure.
The building is now empty, but the area around it includes Ki Mexico (in the old Madison Square Garden restaurant space), Marilynn's Place, Lowder's Bakery, and Doc's Sandwich Shop. The old Brookshire's that was there near it was turned into a nice (really) storage facility with retail space out front. The Johnny's Pizza is still there.

Crazy times when they let teens grow up normally. Not unusual to meet after school in the bar.

Remember the Madison Park El Chico Party Bus?
Another bit of Madison Park nostalgia, I had my first haircut at Pete Ginn’s Barbershop In Madison Park.

They used to also bring warm soft corn tortillas along with the chips and salsa.
