Pretty serious charges. I wonder what the actual sentence will be.

Why not, you think they have a RPG in the guard shack?

Because they're military not law enforcement. They have restraint.

Back in the 70s they probably had nothing to back them up. I'd be surprised if they don't have something like a QRF today.

Plus it is the fricking Air Force. Would be lucky if they had a gun anywhere near them.

I work in Afghanistan and you see every member of every branch of service from every country here minus the US Air Force with their weapon on them at all times (minus an office setting) unless they are doing PT. Only Air Force you will ever see here with a weapon on them is officers due to the ease of carrying a 9mm wherever you go. The Air Force doesn't even run their own security at the ECP's to the flight line. It is run by contractors that get paid around 65,000.00 a year.

A. Blind link = shitty OP. Show a modicum of effort and offer up a quote or a pic or something.

B. The real story here is the fact that this dude made it through the checkpoint, onto base and to the GSF HQ building. How the hell does that happen? Instead of a drunk guy that could have been a terrorist driving a VBIED.

You think there's just a couple airmen armed with 9's and M4's to protect the gate / base?

There couldn't be anything else?

All the bases have barriers with moving barricades. Half the time the guards are not even armed. I go through multiple bases on a weekly basis.

If they are doing an exercise or some sort of terrorist threat they may have a Humvee with an M60 or something on top. But that's extremely rare.

There are plenty of times like after hours when the only guard checking ID's isn't even carrying a weapon. I'm sure the back up in guard shack has one but if you dropped the hammer at the gate he'd never get outside in time. But they push a button and the barriers go up. The right vehicle or a motorcycle though and you can fairly easily get around them.

That’s exactly what happened. The bollards were popped but didn’t go up in time.

This is an old story. Now they have a red siren looking light above the guard shack to deter drunks.

Yeah, I usually don’t see Security Forces at the gate, it’s contractors. I’m sure there is a Quick Response Team, but all the really nasty stuff is secured separately anyway.

I'm Navy, so it's generally a petty officer assigned to the Auxiliary Security Force or DON Police Officers.
