Shreveport in the Top Five places to retire

The Inquisitor and a couple of other news outlets are citing this report where Shreveport is listed #5 in the top five places to retire. When I saw the headline, I figured Jackson must be number 1 (its not). Tampa is no. 3.

I'm not a Shreveport basher, but it isn't a Top Five place to retire.

Must be - but you pay a housing premium to live in a part of Shreveport where you have a decent school and won't get robbed.

What are you taking about? I pay 900 for a two bedroom with more space than I know what to do with. Dining room, kitchen, sun room, walk in closets, big living room. That's incredibly reasonable and I'm in a great area.

Housing premium to live in a decent area? That's called demand, and you see that in every city in the world.

I'll take it! Retired activities that Shrev does well with- Churches, restaurants, hunting, fishing, the river walk, and of course the casinos. Fine place to call it quits if you ask me.

I understand retiring to Toledo bend or another lake, but why would anyone (who isnt from there) retire to a city like Shreveport?

Not on the list of worries of most retirees. ETA, at least the school part. I still think the ranking is a big head scratcher, I'm just saying.

2 killed, 5 injured and 4 shooting in 9 hours over the weekend in Shreveport.... it's the greatest!

Yea, I know.

But, housing prices for Seniors are affected by schools because they compete with parents who will pay a premium for their houses.

Houses in North Desoto parish are high because people want to buy in the North Desoto school district. Retired people trying to sell a house in Grand Cane, La. have trouble because only other retired people will buy them (due to what is perceived as a bad school district).
