That's $5,600 you loaned the gov't. Your CPA should have helped you increase your take home pay throughout the year so you break even.

There is a laundry list of reasons to file separate returns but they are the exceptions rather than the rule.

Outside of a high earner or being able to take certain education deductions. Very, very few returns are filed MFS
