You have the Audubon zoo, aquarium and insectarium a short drive from BR
You have Global Wildlife a short drive from BR
I don't think we need a zoo off Airline Hwy in an area with uncertainty due to 2016 floods, you are only pushing water somewhere else around some potentially expensive homes.
Leave it in North Baton Rouge or close it down for good. I don't think the one off Airline will be any better.

I am willing to call areas that flooded unsuitable for construction without mitigating damages that would be caused by a similar flood in the future. So yeah, raise certain areas, create flood plains and retention ponds, and make certain that if that flood happened again, the zoo property itself will be safe.

Truth. If hypothetically the zoos were the same, I’d rather drive an hour and make a day trip to uptown/magazine and go to Audubon than drive 20 minutes through Baton Rwanda to go to the BR zoo.
Now put the BR zoo in a better location and that 20 minute drive is looking a lot more enticing.

I'd much rather the zoo disappear than pay another tax dedicated to BREC. If they can't move it on their already massive budget, then they can keep it where it is or close it.

If you think the Baton Rouge zoo is run-down and in a bad part of town, you should check out the Jackson Zoo in Mississippi. It looks like it was transplanted directly from Kabul.

And the WWII museum, and outstanding food, and shopping, etc. I get it, and you’re right, but that’s why I think if BR is going to have a zoo it probably does need to be in a higher traffic area, and be supported by other things that make it a point of destination rather than just a zoo. IMO you can’t just put a zoo somewhere and expect it to take off all by itself.
