Looking at the forecast, does anyone in this day and age really need an evac order?

No. Too big, no way to safety do it. Better to hunker down. unlike us they are above ground and drain. Nola was under water for a month.

Hurricane Rita
Officials later reported more than 100 deaths connected to Hurricane Rita — and at least 60 of those deaths were linked the evacuation itself.
Hurricane Harvey
As of today's date deaths reported connected to Hurricane Harvey 7.

No. You'd have more deaths with people stuck in a 2 day traffic jam drowning in their cars.

I heard on news they lost 150 lives due to the last evacuation. Less than 20 so far not evacuating.

A fair point, especially if you've lived in Houston the last 10 or even just 5 years in one of the flood prone areas. However, a lot of areas that never flood are going under.

Not feasible with 48hrs notice.
Did they even have that much notice? For a while it looked like it might head more towards San Antonio than Houston. This just was always going to be unavoidably bad with 40-50 inches of rain. There isn't much that could be done other than to hold on tight and pray.

Should there have been a mandatory evacuation of Houston?
Maybe not for the entire city, but there probably should have been one for the areas that were most likely to flood.

no. it's simply not possible and you'd multiple the number of deaths by a large #
also, you'd end up with hundreds of thousands of flooded cars on major interstates. it would take weeks just to clear those off to allow travel

113 deaths, 107 were evacuating.

Even doing some sort of "pre sheltering" in facilities you think will be safe seems like you'd run into the same problem of too many panicked people gridlocking themselves into bad situations.

People shouldn't need the Government to tell them to leave if trouble (weather wise) is coming.
The mayor of Corpus Christi said something to this effect when asked if they were going to issue a mandatory evacuation. He said, "I think the people of our city are smart enough to decide if they want to leave or not"

MIGHT have been feasible with 7 days notice. That is one BIG might.
This.
It would never happen. You are telling 6 million people to leave 7 days out. Harvey was a tropical wave in Cancun at that point.
Who is leaving their house then?

Went from a 1 to a 4 in a matter of hours. You'd be the laughing stock to mandate an evacuation for a 1 imo. shite happens.
