Should the Zulu social aid and pleasure club, change it's name?

We all know Shaka Zulu was an insane murderer. We also know the zulu nation was a major player in the forced slavery trade of captured tribes.

So since the zulus have a long history tied directly to slavery, my opinion is that the name should be dropped.

For if we are to wipe the city clear of slavery, we really should start with the source. The people who actually captured the slaves.

Also people who like to look fondly on the Ashanti, or the Assai, yeah they are even worse.

You failed to mention the use of blackface in their rituals.

This doesn't fit their agenda, so it won't catch any steam

Oh I don't care either way. Just pointing out the fact that this can go both ways.

That slope can be so slippery, but ignorant folks can't see it.

Exactly. They giving in to this one thing, can literally destroy the history of the city.

The names of streets this group wants changed is insane.
New Orleans history will be like German history.

"Nothing really happened at all before 1950"

I really feel one day we will be fighting to keep the founding fathers memorialized.

1) Shaka kaSenzangakhona was not named Shaka Zulu ,but named after his fathers name ( son of Senzangakhona). The club is not named after Shaka ,but the Nation.

2) Zulu of South Africa had absolutely nothing to do with the transatlantic nor Saharan slave trades. Nor are any African Americans recent descendants? of the Zulu.

I'll wait on your link showing the Zulu sold a single slave internationally let alone being " major players in forced slavery".

Can't argue with that. But, if we are blaming every person from one race in area for slavery, all the black people in Africa are to blame for capturing slaves. /sarcasm

Some of the biggest racists i've ever met in New Orleans were members of Zulu. The past year's "Big Shot's" rallying cry in the neighborhood bar was Make America Black again.

Also, WTF is with the titles? Big Shot of Zulu? Do you get that title from drinking more Grape and Orange sodas than anyone else in the "social club?"

Well, OP must not know the Zulu are nowhere near the area of the slave trade( West Africa/ Sahel/ Sahara).

Cape Town South Africa is over 4000-5000 miles away from the region of slave trade .

Zulu People should be the only ones understandably a bit upset by this Krewe.
