read the numbers in 3 or 4 digit chunks,

My personal cards are all broken up 4-4-4-4 digits, easy. My work Amex is 4-6-5, and my cadence is always thrown off when I read it off

Not necessarily, but once started you must continue.

Nah, I prefer just silence.

Let me read it out, and you read it back from there. Especially if you don't seem to miss any numbers, an "ok" or "mm hmm" is just unnecessary and causes the awkward encounter. Just stay quiet and that is avoided.

Whenever I have to give someone my phone number I like to say it with pauses in weird places.

I take a lot of credit card payments over the phone and wish people would just spit out the numbers

The bigger question is should you refer to 0 as "zero" or "oh."

Oh, and...

Zero.

Although neither my cell number nor my work number have a zero in it.

Funny post and one of my biggest pet peeves. Let me spit that shite out. I usually put a very slight pause in between series of numbers and, inevitably, the fricking Einstein on the other end of the phone will interrupt me with an "ok" or "yes" just as I'm starting the next series. I seriously just want to cuss them out when that happens.

This. 100% this. Nothing I can’t stand more then when I’m trying to read a number and they can’t understand it because they too busy repeating the last number I said.
