Get out, seriously. The Russians wont be your problem, if they invade. Other Ukrainians will be the problem when the lights go out and panic sets in.

I agree. I think this whole thread is fake. If it is not why not just go on a week or two vacation over to Western Europe somewhere. There is going to be all kinds of stuff going on maybe not bullets flying when Russia brings their tanks in. Just not a smart choice. They are going to be taking over the banks and stuff like that. I mean what are you going to do just think you will have access to funds for the family.

The Russkies will zap the internet in the first minutes of the invasion. Unless he has a sat phone he won't be the OTs Ukraine version of Larry Leo.

I think OP said his wife is a doctor. When the balloon goes up she'll be drafted to work in a field hospital under undoubtedly horrific conditions.

What a jolly vacation. Have you thought about including Bataan or Naking while you’re out that way?

People said that about the vid. It won't. Too much metal going. A few months, maybe.

I considered leaving with the baby tomorrow and that is still an option. If Russia does invade I will just stay here probably and ride it out.

I was hoping to know before my flight. I'm going back and forth right now.

Lot to unpack here

People like to overreact. Nothing is as bad as it seems, nothing is as good as it seems.

Not saying this is WW3, because I don’t think it is, but I don’t think the millions that died in WW2 would agree with the statement nothing is as bad as it seems.

Did he say what his decision was?

My parents had a friend who barely made it out of Lebanon in the 1970s - she waited too long and was able to get to Greece

She had to leave her then husband (not sure why) but she always said she should’ve left when first told.

It's 1030pm here, so I will call it a night. I will decide in the morning. I'm leaning towards leaving and hoping Russia doesn't invade. If they do, I would probably put my wife more at risk because of me being American. I don't want her interrogated. This is not an easy decision though. I will pray and see how I feel in the morning.

tOT on the bleeding edge of history once again.

OP, if it's dangerous for you to stay, it's dangerous for your wife and kid to stay. I'd be less worried about interrogations-as the Russians will have too much on their plate for a good little while before they get around to rounding up third country nationals. I would be worried about stray bombs and missiles. We inadvertently killed a lot of civilians in Iraq and AFG although we tried pretty hard not to. And our targeting is a lot more precise than the Russians will be. I'd also worry about the breakdown of law and order once the Ukrainian government institutions are taken out. Just me, but I'd have a hard time leaving my wife and kid with even a slight risk of it happening.

That's like riding out a major hurricane. If you've ever done it, you don't want to do it again
