I haven't been paying attention, why does Putin want to invade Ukraine?

Because it broke off from the former Soviet Union and he wants it back.

That is quite the fricking paragraph.

1. Buffer zone between Russia and NATO
2. Expanded port control over the Black Sea which is a marginal sea of the Atlantic Ocean, an ocean that Russia has very few warm water ports for.
3. Control over fertile farmland

If you haven't left yet then please do so now. You're driving up crawfish prices.

As long as you don’t go to New Orleans you’d be much safer leaving

Yes, unless you like the idea of your wife becoming a Russian's potential war prize.

You have no choice. You’re going to have to give your wife the Mr. T treatment.

The Russian rhetoric is getting worse at least in the states but not here

Ukrainian government is likely terrified behind the scenes. Displaying strength for the cameras though. But RasPutin isn’t putting thousands of troops, aircraft, and naval assets into position for nothing. If anything, there will be an overthrow or Ukraine will be strong armed into completely throwing connections with the West aside.

I'm leaning towards leaving and hoping Russia doesn't invade. If they do, I would probably put my wife more at risk because of me being American. I don't want her interrogated.

You should get your whole family out as a precautionary measure. If your wife doesn't understand the sense in that and won't leave, then you should at least take the baby with you as a precautionary measure. If nothing happens, you've all lost nothing.

Go, if you want to take up arms and fight and die for its sovereignty. Otherwise, get away.
