ust have a zoom meeting while y'all eat crawfish together from your own homes.
You laugh but my family has discussed setting up a Zoom meeting for Easter Sunday. It was said in jest, just I think some seriousness involved. The biggest issue is going to be getting my elderly parents set up on Zoom remotely.
I have young, active nieces and nephews and elderly parents with middle aged siblings, one immune compromised so it’s just not smart for us to all get together.

I wish my parents would understand this
we had to cancel my 1 year olds bday party but now my Mom is talking about have a 3 kid bday party (my 1 year olds, 7 year old, and twin neices) at the end of May
they are 70 and my Dad has heart issues, so I'm respecting their decisions, but they aren't making much sense when they are already talking about having a huge party in May
Look at the people in here, they dont get it either
They think if you go to your parents now you are an idiot exposing them to huge risks
But if you go see them in may when certain restrictions are lifted you arent exposing them to risks
To be logical, you either see them now, or you dont see them until a vaccine. If you do the in between you arent following any logical reasoning
It just isnt worth discussing anymore with them

People don’t understand the purpose of stay at home. The sole reasoning (I know you know this) has been to protect hospital capacity. Nothing more. But the message put out has been “Stay Home Save Lives!!!” And the Karens are constantly referring to death numbers and old people being very much at risk. So there’s this idea that we are staying away from family in order to save their lives. It sounds good and it makes people feel good. In other words, it’s a powerful message that gets people to comply and believe they are doing this to save grandma. And maybe they are... but for just a short while. Without a vaccine or way to stop spread, whoever is going to get this virus will get this virus eventually. That person, whether they get it today or in 2 months, will be treated the same and will either have issues and die or will live. So what did that person sacrifice to simply die two months later? Being locked away at home without seeing family. And it’s even worse in the icu where they get minimal interactions. That ending is way more tragic than being with family and holding your loved ones without being manipulated by fear.
And don’t get me totally wrong. We are limiting our interactions too. People have the right to choose their own fate especially our elders.

the 1 argument that can be made for waiting till May or June is that we might have a clearly defined treatment schedule by then
we are currently experimenting with all kinds of treatments right now, but hopefully by then, we will have narrowed it down a bit

quote:It’s a fair argument and basically the purpose of my other thread. There’s a possibility of a better, more widespread treatment available. But older people don’t have much they can do outside of quarantining which is why I focused on the obese people in that thread who would have an option to be proactive and take some control over their susceptibility to being hospitalized.

I think they know what you do to their daughter.....I'm pretty sure they are OK with it.
