You realize GM employs like 100,000 people right? Pretty sure it’s much higher actually.

You realize that your guesstimate of the amount of people that GM employs has absolutely nothing to do with her being overpaid?

She makes $10,577.00 per hour. That is fricking obscene.

Only here is okay for one person to make 22 mil a year and obscene for someone to make $63/hour.

One is influenced by the market and the other is influenced by a union

You think the Board does this out of kindness? And the shareholders of one of the biggest publicly traded companies just turn a blind eye to this?

You are wayyy out of your realm of knowledge here.

What year is this?

And they should start by building better more competitive vehicles at the plants they already have, then they can expand because of demand.

Odummy gave the last batch of bailouts to auto companies, and did nothing to ensure the workers would have jobs.

So, companies took cash and moved/built plants in central america and mexico. And you still pay the same amount of money for the vehicle made by people making $3 an hour, as you did for people making $25 n hour. So who's the fools, you!

Didn't just bail them out. Engaged in shenanigans with their bankruptcy to benefit them as well.

And, in answer to your question, no. They are still a private business answerable to their shareholders.

But, for PR purposes, they should go 1 for 1 (new domestic plant for every foreign built plant)

I understand the what, and the why. It is still wrong for anybody to be paid that kind of money. The market drives it and it has become acceptable over the last 30- 40 years though.

At one time, these captains of industry would have been embarrassed to be this greedy. Japan has laws against CEO's making so many times more than the lowest paid employee.

I am all for capitalism but one person siphoning so much out of a company is immoral.

The advent of planned obsolescence elevated the foreign auto market to heights they never even dreamed of.

Ford didn’t take any money.

This is spread constantly, but is false.

Although Ford did not receive TARP funds, it did receive government loans. These were critical because banks were not lending during the financial crisis. ... On June 23, 2009, Ford received a $5.9 billion loan from the Energy Department's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program.

I don't think you understand capitalism nearly as much as you think you do.

Assume GM caps CEO salary/bonus at an amount you deem reasonable... let's say $5 million

High performing CEOs will opt out of working at GM because they can make more money elsewhere. Thus GM limits its own potential.

In some of their old commercials, they used to say they paid it all back. Does this mean they paid it back, or it was forgiven? I ask, because SOP is to tell some kind of loud lie on commercials verbally, then flash a quick disclaimer saying it is bullshite at the bottom.

The same “high performing” CEO’s that almost drove the world economy into a depression?!?

what? Are we still talking about GM here?

Let me guess, you are a Bernie bot who wants the government to limit what a business can pay its employees, and wants to tax the economy to death in order to redistribute wealth...

Time for me to take a quick look at their 10-k for a fact check

Eta: 2 mil base, 4 mil STI and the rest in LTI equity. What's the problem?
Her baser is only 10% of total comp.

Not a Bernie supporter but I do believe that income inequality is an issue that needs to be addressed.

The taxpayers loaned GM cash when the credit markets froze, which was reasonable and prudent under the circumstances. That's been paid back with interest.

The taxpayers bailed out the UAW pension, which is above and beyond what the taxpayers should have ever done. We'll never see that back. Ever.

What is the cutoff that constitutes inequality, and what should be done about it?

This is correct. But if all companies paid reasonable money to their CEO's, then there is nowhere to bail to. Because I am pro-capitalism, I do not think this should be law. I think it should be done because it is the right thing to do.

Let's talk hamburgers. If I buy a bag full of $1 cheeseburgers and I see ten hungry children, I will give them each one. It is the right thing to do. If Bernie mandates that I have to, we have problems.

Sometimes doing the right thing should just be done because it is the right thing to do.

I also don't see them offering to pay it back if their poor decisions tank the company. (see Carly Fiorina)
