This is correct. But if all companies paid reasonable money to their CEO's, then there is nowhere to bail to. Because I am pro-capitalism, I do not think this should be law. I think it should be done because it is the right thing to do

Pay caps (government mandated or self imposed) limit motivation.

The scenario you are describing doesn't exist. It's like saying communism would be great if everyone maintained their same work ethic and motivations.

The first part is a fair question and I don’t know the answer. But it does exist at levels never seen before in our country. IF we don’t find a way for capital to be distributed throughout the market, we will get socialism. Which I oppose but will happen even more than it is now.

The second part, IMO, involves deregulation which hampers small business and competition in the market. I would get rid of unfair tax practices. I think most of what I mentioned is orchestrated by lobbying and political contributions to prevent competition.

I am for doing all of this, but I don't think it has a significant impact on the wealth gap.

The truth is that increasing wealth gaps are an inherent part of a capitalistic society.

The more money you have, the easier it is to make more. And those with wealth are typically smarter and make better decisions for the long term.

Yeah they should but won't. If anything more production will be moved to China and eventually Vietnam.

I think it is ridiculous too. It is a business though and the market creates Jimbo contracts. It pays what the market allows.

In 1965, CEO's made 20 times what the average employee made. It topped out at 376 to 1 in 2000. It had slowed down some in 2014 and was 303 to 1. In 2018 it had jumped to 361 to 1. These figures are for the top tenth of a percent earning CEO's.

Barra’s pay package included a salary of $2.1 million, unchanged from 2017; stock awards worth almost $11.1 million; options worth more than $3.4 million and a performance award worth almost $4.5 million, according to the proxy.

Not all of her salary is cash as shown above.

She is overpaid however, as I don't think she's doing a very good job.

The Toyota CEO in Japan made the equivalent of 1.1 million. I doubt the CEO at GM is worth that much more than Toyota’s.
My house on the same sized lot overlooking the Pacific at Pebble Beach would be worth about 15 times it’s present value where I’m presently located.

Your logic says I should expect to pay the same for a house no matter where it’s located.

The lady in charge at GM makes $22 million per year. That is kind of immoral already. I know the big guns get paid these kinds of numbers but is anybody really worth that?

I don’t think she’s worth $22M but I hate it when people bring “morality” into the equation when speaking of CEO pay. Just say she’s overpaid.

She's overpaid.

It is not illegal. What does that leave?

Why should I care about CEO pay relative to an “average” employee? It’s a made up metric with very little value. I’m not concerned with how much senior leaders are paid as long as they are doing their job well. The average employee comment is just envy.

In your opinion. In the opinion of the people that actually approve her pay, she is sufficiently paid.

If an organization is willing to pay an individual X amount yet you think X amount is too high....then it’s more likely that you are incorrect. The organization has more information and more incentives to reduce expenses than someone with an outside perspective.

There is a reason Toyota, Mercedes, Nissan, Mazda, Kia etc are building plants in right to work states and doing fine, no reason for GM to leave the US, just move production down south.

You’re worth whatever someone is willing to pay you.

Your mindset about this would make Bernie proud.
