I can properly measure for a suit fairly easily, but how do I go about measuring for an overcoat?

The goal is to have it fit over a light coat, a simple sweater, and a shirt.

And to be warm when it's 10 degrees.

Are you sewing it yourself?

Go shopping on a day when you’re wearing some layers.

I'm ordering it tailored to fit from an online retailer.

No one local could make it in less than a week

I thought it was a trick question or something

For real though, it’s an overcoat. Is off the rack really going to make a huge difference?

If you said a quarter zip or cashmere, you would be shockingly correct.

I barely sleep and this is the item occupying my attention at the moment.

Order one in your normal suit jacket size and one a size up. Keep the one that fits better and return the other.

I have the misfortune of being very oddly shaped.

80 inch wingspan.

Imagine if donkey kong just let himself go

You a man? Go to a reputable men’s store and get the staff person to fit you.
Then you can still order online, unless your size is really irregular.

Just go to the military surplus store and try on the Navy overcoats until you find one that fits good.
