All of my employees have cc for self defense. We all took the cc class together and then we took an advanced shooting class together. After that advanced class, it was obvious that only the business owner and myself should be allowed to carry on the premises.

For real though, I think training is excellent but how it looks and is handled under a stressful scenario is a different story

Do you honestly think teachers are equipped to hand a gun in a high pressure situation?

Either way, it doesn't stop someone from attempting to shoot people down in a school.

I realize that. By no mean do I want to shift toward a tyrannical state, but protecting kids at school could be prevented with some active monitoring and intervention.

You cannot prevent this problem without weapons present. So if you don’t want any weapons in the building that’s fine. I can totally understand that. But there is not a single other way to prevent what happened today. If there was then that protocol would be in place already

It's not about having weapons in the building, it's about issuing them to everybody who works in the building. Maybe school systems need to start budgeting to add armed security in every school.

The more effective way would be to have three or four armed guards located in such positions where there are eyes on every area outside the school,

Im not saying give them a gun with no training. But with proper training, they would be a very effective deterrent

The alternative is fish in a barrel

This. No one is saying teachers are going to be as trained as law enforcement. What needs to go is the "gun free zone" signage. If a possible shooter knows there is someone capable of stopping them with a quickness on campus, they probably aren't going to target that campus.

how will we accomplish that specifically. Do we want all schools to follow random security checks now or whatever. A lot of schools they don't check for anything when you enter it

Did you know that 64,000 people in the US will die from overdosing on drugs just this year? There were only 15,590 deaths from guns in 2017. Those include legitimate shoots as well as murders and mass shootings.

What are we monitoring again?

I have a feeling that local officials/police/broward county SO are going to be raked over the coals. Someone dropped the ball. I just know it.

He was hiding in plain sight.

They have combat training, force on force training etc where individuals are placed in situations very similar to both train and educatr them on the highly stressful situations.

And you expect already broke arse poor school districts to pay for this how?

Even a controlled entry with a presence would be a plus. I'm not saying turn our schools into jails, but what is wrong with that? Controlled points, more speed barriers, a fence, stuff like that. This is a place where we send our kids to be safe and learn.

You really wouldn't have to do much more than that. Just stop ignoring it and stop being complacent.

The kid today knew his greatest advantage. He knew where to go. He knew it was the end of the day. Ppl let down their security anyways on holidays like this.

Palm Beach and Broward Sheriffs are in a mobile home park called Lantana Cascade searching for potential explosives related to the shooting today. Local news reporter was running FB live.

I think most schools pretty much have this now. Usually the only unlocked entrance will be the front by the main office.

The vast majority of school shooters have already decided to die. They just want to cause mayhem and become infamous. The fear of getting shot won't stop them because they have no fear of getting shot.

The majority of the time this is their suicide.

Its pretty obvious multiple people dropped the ball on this. Social media especially screamed a major problems when all his pictures are covered faces with knives and guns

Like I said I don’t want to arm every teacher but you on a faculty of 100 you are likely to have 15 ex military, law enforcement etc. you are just preparing a small group to help defend until swat can arrive. I know why it’s a bad idea to do this but in that’s situation there are no good ideas. What’s the best way to minimize the loss of life? you have to disarm the shooter as fast as possible or at least distract him from firing at unarmed innocents.

Im curious why he was expelled and what the school knows. It seems like there was a given threat and most knew the kid wasnt normal. Wonder if there were any tips.

Instead of the coaches teaching dumbass history, make them provide armed security
