Only if you ignore the fact these mass shooters want to create as much carnage as possible because most know going in they’re going to die in a matter of minutes when the cops eventually show up. It’s those few minutes, when they’re in a crowd of helpless unarmed people that the mass shooters are wanting. Take away those few minutes so the next time some idiot gets the idea to do something like this they’ll change their mind because they know that more than likely they won’t have those few minutes of being the only one with a gun.
You're basing your entire argument on the premise that a mass shooter is a rational person. Mass shooters are typically mentally ill with no regard to his own well-being. They simply do not care if there are a few people in the crowd with personal firearms.

Years ago, some guy pissed off over a family law case shot his ex and shot the courthouse up in Tyler, Texas. Gun dealer across the street comes out and confronts the guy, pistol (gun dealer) v. AR. Gun dealer shoots well and hits the guy, not realizing the guy has body armor on. So, the bad guy ends up killing the gun dealer.
Used to be a video on youtube of this event (a Tyler cop ended up dusting off the bad guy). I could not find it.

Not jumping into this argument but the base shooting at Fort Hood must be what you are talking about. That place was 100% a gun free zone on orders of the Base Commander. So don’t use that as an example. If you are talking about overseas, then you are just being dumb. That’s literally a war zone over there.
There are MPs throughout the area. I know you cannot carry while hanging out on base.

And you base this on what? We know they almost always pick targets where they know they will be the only one with a gun. Why are you choosing to ignore this important fact as those it’s just coincidence?

It is dumb because of what I have stated. A guy barricaded in an elevated hotel room is not a fair comparison to a shooter that is actually part of the crowd. It is like saying if the guy was in an armored tank would it have mattered if there were guns in the crowd.
Well school shooters shooting up their own school shouldn't matter. They're not doing it because it's a gun free zone.
Also, people shooting up their own employer don't count because they would do it whether it was gun free or not.
Church shootings don't matter because they're going to shoot up a church whether it's gun free or not.
And so on and so forth.

They pick targets for a variety of reasons.

Because it is a coincidence.
I'm not advocating for or against gun free zones, I'm just debating the idea they're some kind of attractant to shooters. I completely disagree with that take.

In that instance, yes I agree. No one was going to be able to find the right room and shoot up there and get him. If he was part of the crowd, then my answer would be different.
So, if no place is a gun-free zone and that does deter shooters from being in the crowd don't you think anyone planning a mass shooting will simply pick a situation like Vegas where they have cover and/or concealment.

I can agree to that

I don't know. Maybe in some cases. But there's a reason that soft targets are often chosen for mass shootings where it's unlikely there will be others there that are armed. You don't see mass shootings at gun conventions or NRA meetings for a reason.

You e already said it was a coincidence. But I want to know why you think it’s just coincidence. There has to be competing that you base this on. So what evidence do you have that it’s just coincidence they just happen to always pick places where they don’t have to worry about someone immediately shooting back the second they open fire?

Gun free zone or not, the Gilroy California Garlic Festival will never have as many gun-carrying attendees as a gun convention/show or NRA meeting.

Exactly. These mass shooters want to kill as many people as possible while they can. That’s their goal, maximum carnage. They hit targets where they know they can achieve their sick goal of killing the most people possible before they’re stopped.

And regardless of the "gun free" status, that will always be events like the one where this shooting happened..or some music festival..or some bible study.

You don’t see mass shootings at comic conventions or PETA meetings either. What’s the reason there?
These events can’t allow open carry and get liability insurance. You can’t bring a loaded weapon into a gun show or a reptile show or boat show or jewelry show or concert of any kind.

And this is why gun free zones are stupid and costs more lives than they save. For one, these gun free zones only serve as a magnet to the mentally deranged shooters looking to kill as many people as possible. And on top of this, it prevents innocent people who follow the law from being able to defend themselves from these shooters. Yes the cops get there in a few minutes. But a few minutes is an eternity in an active shooter event. And in those few minutes he’s the wolf and everyone else around him are sheep unless they have the means to defend themselves. That’s why gun free zones need to be done away with.
