For one, these gun free zones only serve as a magnet to the mentally deranged shooters looking to kill as many people as possible. And on top of this, it prevents innocent people who follow the law from being able to defend themselves from these shooters.
The simple existence of the event is the magnet for the shooter.

A mass shooter's goal isn't to shoot as many people as possible?

Yeah I think the main priority is just how many people are there. And then most school shootings aren't done because they're no gun zones, it's because they go there and want to kill specific people. Columbine didn't happen because it was a gun free zone.

Gun free zones are symbolic horseshite. It creates a false sense of security in weak people.

Please tell me what would give you this idea.

That was a guy who lost in the tournament and snapped. That wasn't because it was a gun free zone.

Exactly. These mass shooters want to kill as many people as possible while they can. That’s their goal, maximum carnage. They hit targets where they know they can achieve their sick goal of killing the most people possible before they’re stopped.
Her is the issue, we can't eliminate soft targets unless we completely change the way we live. Even if everyone in the US was forced to carry a gun and to be trained it still would not have stopped Vegas for example. Shooters will simply pick targets that offer cover and/or concealment along with using long guns that give them a significant advantage over handguns. Either that or they just plant a bomb.

They want to kill specific people/types of people first and foremost. Rarely are they targeting a random crowd for random reasons.

You are ignoring lives that would be taken due to negligent discharges, inexperienced gun owners trying to identify the shooter in a crowd and hit their target, and drunk people at concerts pulling a gun in a dispute instead of using fists.

Sounds like a great reason to get rid of gun free zones.

You're correct. They're targeting specific crowds for specific reasons:
To inflict as many casualties as they can as quickly as they can.

What about a video game convention?
Read the facts of that case and you will see it would have occurred even in a room full of guns.

In the broad definition of mass shooter, maybe
Mass shootings in public places with crowds, it's their goal, along with infamy

Fwiw, I don't have a problem with eliminating gun free zones. I'm not suggesting they work one way or the other. I simply don't believe they increase the likelihood of being targeted.

Sure, once they've picked a location or event that matters to them in some form or fashion.
Vegas is one of the few truly random mass shootings we've really seen in this country.

Fair enough. Two questions...
1. how many did he shoot?
2. How many would he have shot if someone had shot him the moment he started shooting?
The whole point to what I’m arguing is the only way to stop one of these mass shooters is for someone else to shoot them the moment they open fire. As long as they have ammunition and no one is shooting back at them, they’re going to keep on killing. Only bullets coming back at them stops them.

If you simply want to make mass killers look an extra 30 minutes for a target then you are correct.
In the end, both sides use shootings like this to push their agenda. The problem is if you step back and look at it logically it becomes clear that neither agenda will stop mass killings.
