In the video game tournament shooting case, I believe the shooter had just lost a game and snapped. And it happened so quickly, nobody would have been able to do much in terms of an armed response.

The whole point to what I’m arguing is the only way to stop one of these mass shooters is for someone else to shoot them the moment they open fire. As long as they have ammunition and no one is shooting back at them, they’re going to keep on killing. Only bullets coming back at them stops them.
I agree with all of that. Shooters have historically been keen to off themselves the moment it gets dicey.

Dallas police shooting downtown comes to mind. That was basically the exact opposite of a gun free zone.

I agree 100%. Which is why I prefer to default to allowing those who wish to exercise their rights to do so and therefore remove gun free zones.
I'll caveat and say this is for public areas. I'm perfectly ok with a private venue or business mandating no guns allowed on their property. I may disagree with it, but that is well within their rights as property owners.

Yeah some cat in the protest was even open carrying a long gun IIRC from the pictures.
There are other examples too. People that do this shite go down a list of things before they worry about whether it's a gun free zone or not. Or they simply snap and go crazy like the video game thing.

I will say, I agree with the earlier poster who said that police responding to a mass shooting would see any civilian with a firearm as a threat, even a good guy with a gun.
The number one goal in a mass shooting is to escape as quickly as possible.

And what happens if 7 people pull guns in a crowd and start firing at the “shooter”? Do you think all of the gun owners can figure out in an instant if the other people are co-conspirators or good guys with guns?
Do you think all gun owners who carry are proficient shots and responsible? I’ve been at a range where a long time owner unintentionally discharged his weapon. I’ve been sprayed by shot while dove hunting by someone not paying attention.
I am much more afraid of being a casualty of a negligent gun owner than a mass shooter in a “gun free zone”. The insurance actuaries apparently feel the same way.

Correct. The guy immediately went to police to give up his gun so they wouldn't think he was the shooter.

And I guarantee any CC holder is 100% with you. The CC is for those instances when you can't flee and cops aren't on the ground yet.

Exactly. Nut jobs are always going to do these sort of attacks. The only thing we can do is to be prepared to defend ourselves if and when we find ourselves in this situation. And, as I said earlier, only two things stop a mass shooter...
1. Running out of ammo
2. Being shot
So let us defend ourselves and give us a chance to survive instead of being targets.

I know lots of tacticool d-bags who CC and would relish the thought of playing hero regardless of the situation.

This would be my concern. 5 Billy Bob's pulling out their CC and unloading at the shooter while also hitting a bunch of innocent bystanders.

You need to find better friends. Every CC owner I know, military and civilian, have zero interest in being that guy.

Didn’t say I was friends with them. If you don’t believe they are out there in multitudes, you are being intentionally naive. Go look on social media.

The media has so warped your mind you think anyone without a government issued uniform is incapable with a firearm. That’s fricking sad.

Because that happens all the time huh?

And if you think the ones bragging about that shite won't be hiding behind the first bush they find pissing themselves, you're being intentionally naive. Anyone who will actual return fire isn't bragging about it on social media.

They’ve become sheep who think the government should do everything up to and including wiping their own arse.

No, people in uniform are incapable as well. I took part in a few active shooter drills in the military, and despite being prepared for it, cops/MP's were just as inept. I know from experience as I was shot by a dummy round during it as an "innocent bystander".

So you construct this fiction to fit your narrative. Convenient. Only responsible, well trained gun owners out of hundreds carrying will react calmly and neutralize the threat amid chaos. The irresponsible ones will run and hide. Sure.
