A lot of deaths are caused by vehicle accidents, but at least vehicle companies continue to find ways to build safer vehicles.
Why not just pass a law that requires manufacturers to limit all vehicles to speeds not to exceed 70 mph?
Or require that an interlock system be placed on every vehicle?

How many stories of people killed by folks texting or driving or homeowners who defend their home from robbers with their own firearms never hit the national news? The MSM is manipulating you into trying to surrender your rights.

Shooter dead? Or in custody?
Just heard he is alive.

Something needs to change is just a slippery slope to "if it only saves one life" mantra. We live in a free country and terrible stuff like this happens, whether it's an accidental car crash on the interstate, death by food poisoning, etc.

I think his bigger point was how quickly someone came to the defense when it's directed at white people, but no one ever does with other races.

Yeah it's super hypocritical. My favorite was the defenses of the white dude who kicked the old black guy in the face in New Orleans.
I recall everyone saying that dude was a massive POS

Yeah, I think when you look at the data, white males are less likely to commit a mass shooting than a black male, but the difference doesn't seem to be that big.

We've done plenty to make guns safer.
And if you really wanted to cut down on traffic fatalities you would ban any car that can travel faster than 70 mph and place an interlock system in every vehicle. Would you be okay with that?

Black males are responsible for a majority of homicides in this country despite only making up 6.6% of the population. Not exactly the same thing.

There have been various proposals suggested that people say does not go far enough.
Marco Rubio suggested a gun violence restraining order, where people can report suspicious activity by somebody to the police, and law enforcement can perhaps confiscate weapons of people they think has probable cause of committing violence.

What if, however, there was an evidence-based process for temporarily denying a troubled person access to guns? What if this process empowered family members and others close to a potential shooter, allowing them to “do something” after they “see something” and “say something”? I’ve written that the best line of defense against mass shootings is an empowered, vigilant citizenry. There is a method that has the potential to empower citizens even more, when it’s carefully and properly implemented.
It’s called a gun-violence restraining order, or GVR
quote:
While there are various versions of these laws working their way through the states (California passed a GVRO statute in 2014, and it went into effect in 2016), broadly speaking they permit a spouse, parent, sibling, or person living with a troubled individual to petition a court for an order enabling law enforcement to temporarily take that individual’s guns right away. A well-crafted GVRO should contain the following elements (“petitioners” are those who seek the order, “the respondent” is its subject):
It should limit those who have standing to seek the order to a narrowly defined class of people (close relatives, those living with the respondent);
It should require petitioners to come forward with clear, convincing, admissible evidence that the respondent is a significant danger to himself or others;
It should grant the respondent an opportunity to contest the claims against him;
In the event of an emergency, ex parte order (an order granted before the respondent can contest the claims), a full hearing should be scheduled quickly — preferably within 72 hours; and
The order should lapse after a defined period of time unless petitioners can come forward with clear and convincing evidence that it should remain in place.
