Notorious "pharma bro" Martin Shkreli was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison for federal fraud charges related to hedge funds and a drug company that he once ran.
"There one person to blame for me being here today is me," a choked-up Shkreli told a judge before she imposed the prison term. "Not the government. There is no conspiracy to take down Martin Shkreli."
"I took down Martin Shkreli."
"This is my fault. I am no victim here," Shkreli said, before breaking down into sobs as he promised his lawyer not to let him down in his efforts to contribute to society.

Shkreli already has been ordered to forfeit almost $7.4 million, and give up his ownership of a one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang Clan album because of his crimes.
What a BS witch hunt

Does seem like it was kind of a witch hunt on him, but he brought it on himself. He should have never been a douche and raised those prices like he did. Although, he could do it, it was the ultimate dick move.

I remember when they were investigating him about his price increases. Yeh....Doesn't surprise me one bit that the little bitch cried. I'm sure he won't be serving those years in a "real prison". He wouldn't survive very long.

His own defense attorney admitted to wanting to punch him in the face at times

Should have invested in those nuclear bombs, Martin

Just because he is unlikable doesn't justify the punishment given. Read the details of the case and you will see the amounts he has to forfeit and the prison sentence is harsh considering.

Meh. I can see how you could think it's harsh, but it's not like they maxed him out in sentencing. On a completely non-legal level it's just funny to hear that about his legal team.

I would agree that other "white collar" criminals have done worse and paid less
but this guy was horrible at his own press
this clown and Baylor University athletics should be taught as how NOT to handle a media crisis

Martin should have diversified his bonds.

did you ever actually read up about what he raised the prices on? It kept zero people out of the few thousand in the US that were on it from getting the drug.

Harsh? Nah. Pretty fair given this is federal court and he was committing securities fraud.
You will get your arse handed to you for screwing with the stock market and with investors money. That’s a double whammy!

And it help fund R&D on other drugs. One that is very close to being approved that will actually save more lives. Also, Shkreli made sure that anyone that didn't have insurance and/or couldn't afford the drug got it.
