Had them a couple months ago. Also in my 30s. Luckily I recognized what was happening very quickly and got on the anti-virals and mine really only bothered me about a week. It was uncomfortable and painful for 3 days or so then just kind of itchy. The spot on my back was really the worst, it felt like deep muscle pain. After the pain went away it was just itchy for a while. I still can see where they were even though I never had major scabbing or anything and I avoided scratching it. Overall I feel lucky because I’ve heard horror stories.

I was around 26 when I got them in my optic nerve. My head had hurt off and on about month with me never being able to pinpoint the problem area. Then I thought I had brain cancer it was so bad. Later that night, my eye erupted into a bunch of boils, etc. I went to the doctor and had it diagnosed, got the valtrex. But it continued to rage. Ended up in the emergency room. Got tons of good drugs and medicine via iv.
I went from amazing vision to having astigmatism in that eye to now noticeable reduction in eyesight. My other eye sucks now too but that's just because I'm old.
If I get it again, I'm eating a bullet

Had a very mild case a right around 40, on one side of my rib cage, slight discomfort but no pain, a little itchy, got on the meds and Dr also gave me steroid cream.
Didn't scab but if you look really close you can kinda see where it was around my rib cage. Overall very thankful it wasn't bad for me.

I had a very mild case a few years ago. Woke up feeling like a bad brush burn inside my elbow. I didn’t know what it was but went to the doctor the next day when it began spreading up my arm to my shoulder. Started anti-virals right away and it was gone completely within 3 days.

Had them when I was 10-11 years old. Dont remember much other than being itchy like the chicken pox. Wasn't that bad and I got off of school for a week.

I also got it in my optic nerve/face this time last year. Went directly to UAB Eye Foundation as instructed. After a year my right eye constantly feels like it has an eyelash in it and I have permanent scar tissue on my eye affecting my vision. I would suggest anyone over 50 get the vaccine.

After 22 years I don't really feel the pain from the boils on my head anymore. It took about 15 yrs before being in cold didn't hurt. My eye still gets red if I'm stressed a few days or really tired. Guess it's my weak point.
Can't really tell on the scars because I had acne as a teen and so I don't really inspect that much.

Had it around 10 years ago. Started on my lower back, wrapped around my right side and onto my inner thigh and the side of my ballsack. Oddly, wasn’t that painful.

Had another outbreak on top of my head and my forehead about 3 years ago. I still have a scar above my eyebrow from that. But at least there wasn't any pain or discomfort from it. Just a lovely reminder how much they suck.
Doctor told me it was most likely stress related.

Yeah I had it at 28. They says it’s for older people but I’ve work with 2-3 people under 35 who had it in their 20s early 30s
It sucks but it’s survivable and usually pretty easily diagnosed and you can get on the antivirals.
Mine started out feeling like a part of my chest was being rubbed wrong by like a seam or something and the. Basically became a stinging aching feeling. But not all the time.
To this day I still Joke that shingles is exactly what I would Wish on my worst enemy. Just the right amount of inconvenience.
It sucks but it’s survivable and usually pretty easily diagnosed and you can get on the antivirals.

with my early 50s husband, we recognized it earliest, got him the retrovirals and controlled it.
A 60ish female friend had had the shots, got shingles anyway, took the retrovirals, got sicker and still two years later is suffering in many ways.
A friends older Father (70's) didn't know what he had and suffered with symptoms for the rest of his life.
For my husband and our friend, stress was the initiator of the symptoms.

This right here. Stress is definitely a trigger. I was dealing with work and extremely stressful family issues...then I got a small rash on my forehead. I thought it was an allergic reaction to something.
I’m reluctant to get the vaccine because I’m still battling this shite a year later. I don’t know if my immune system can take much more.
