My dog was adopted from our county rescue. He's the sweetest animal I've ever been around.

I found a pregnant cat in my complex, and brought it to the shelter to be adopted. I didn't think it was a big deal. People always want kittens, and the mom was as sweet as could be.
Bitch behind the counter finally tells me the babies will be aborted. I told her we weren't surrendering the cat. She said it was too late, the paperwork had already been filled out.
I told her to try and take the mama cat from me and I walked out the door.
I will never return to that shelter. I hate it, because that's where I got my dog, but that was fricking disgusting.

People will be arse hurt for saying anything bad about rescues but most shelters are chock full of either 1 year old pitbulls or mystery mutts who have significant behavior issues - theres a reason some of them are there, unfortunately.
My problem with shelters is they make people jump through all kinds of retarded hoops designed to weed people out - when any dipshit can go on Facebook/craigslist and get a dog with literally 1/100th of the hassle.

Growing up we never went anywhere and adopted dogs
They just showed up. And we’d feed them and then they’d stay around. Some longer than others. Had more than a few we had to scrape off the road.

There’s some young dog that’s been yapping nonstop about 4 hours straight now several houses down. Damn thing won’t shut up. You think it would tire itself out by now

We currently have 1 rescue and 1 stray that we found - posted on social media and at a local vets office with zero response.

Sounds like a few people need to get over themselves.
Shitty dogs with bad attitudes exist whether you want to believe it or not. Some times dogs aren’t a good fit for certain homes.

Rescue dogs can take sometime to get used to being “normal” after having a shitty life before. I have one and for the first year he wouldn’t walk on a leash or approach anyone. Now he’s just a normal dog and it’s great.

If you want a loyal dog get a shelter dog and treat it right. Both the dogs I’ve gotten from the pound have had some issues but that bond you get with them once they trust you 100% is the best feeling.

Have you tried taking the dog for a walk? Have you at all try to give the dog affection?
I've fostered probably 100 or more dogs over the years, and some are a little more skittish than others. Just give the dog some affection, and if you don't bother, the dog doesn't deserve to be with you. I'd call the place you got them from and ask if they'll try to find a better home for him

Maybe he senses your disinterest. Spend some time with him and make him feel wanted. We have rescued for decades and never had a dog that didn't come around.

Wife (no pics) wanted to adopt an older dog. Went with the kids to the “elderly room” and picked out a dog for a trial period. Looked like an old dog and was very timid. He had been abused and abandoned.
Got him home and he was a demon. shite in the house. Wax deathly afraid of me. Developed a cough and the vet at the pound told the wife she thought he was about 2-3 years old.
We decided to keep him and it took damn near 2 years before he trusted us 100%. But he’s now one of the sweetest most loving dog I’ve ever owned. Still not great with strangers though.
Give it some time.

Yeah i figured you would get grilled over this one. Shelter dogs are the in thing now. God forbid someone get a pure bred and pass over a shelter dog. Lots of liberals all over social media freaking out about putting a shelter dog to sleep, but line up to protest for abortions. I just dont get it myself. To each his own.

Whenever this happens most impatient owners bring the dog back to the shelter. Maybe they need to being you to the shelter for being an insensitive, impatient a-hole. You're a terrible fricking owner.

Further, this is one reason foster groups require answers before a prospective owner takes a dog.

We have a rescue mutt terrier like who was about three years old when adopted. I'm certain she was abused, beat, chained up and escaped and lived on the street for a while.
Took a year before she wouldn't flinch when pet, and now is one smart dog very attentive to a mild voice and training. She will still cower if she's yelled at. Was house trained before we got her.
Good dog we love her it just took a while before she trusted us.
Can't blame her.

Please return this dog. No animal deserves the contempt you obviously have for him and it won’t end well. If your “old lady” wants to adopt again, spend some time with the dog first.
