This will be a major upset to many on this board who are dying for NOLA to lose business.
NOLA isn't gaining business either. All this means is that there will be more empty office space in the CBD. Yay!

There are empty office spaces across the country.....this is nothing confined to just New Orleans

Did you read the article or just parsing together from the thread?

I used to work at Shell in One Shell Square. I guess a move was inevitable. I knew Colette then, the SVP of GoM now that was quoted in the article, cute girl, super smart.
I’m going to have to reach out to some of my former colleagues to see what they think of the move. They were just starting to move to the European open design space when I left, compared to the almost everyone gets an office, which was mostly the design.

This is great news and makes me optimistic the River District development will be successful. Saulet Apartments, Urban South Brewery and other local business owners should be ecstatic. They definitely need to think about the freeway access. I already usually avoid the Tchoup exit when I am going down there, just because it always seems to randomly back up.

NOLA is actually losing out on concerts because of the arena, its not just about basketball
I’m not saying the arena is top notch, but the idea that we are missing out is asinine. Tell everyone what shows we’ve missed out on.
Drake - check
Olivia Rodrigo - check
The 1975 - check
Zach Bryan - check
Chris Stapleton - check

The powerplant is still in place.
No one wants to frick with that toxic dump.
An acquaintance's family business owns all the Grand Bohemian Hotels and the Savannah power plant revitalization. I asked him about this and it was all he could do not to bust out laughing in my face. The Savannah project was $400mm+ he said this would be a billion dollar nightmare.

I have to think that a total teardown and remediation is in the future.
Up against the river that you can't work around for 3-6 months a year is going to make it a nightmare.
Maybe, just maybe, they eventually get to rebuild the river pier that was burnt down and make the river visable.

They need to build a flyover that puts out those 18 wheeler direct onto Tchop headed towards Walmart or wherever and from Tchop directly to interstate so they quit clogging up the lower streets and lights. And clean up the homeless camp.

A friend of mine that works in the industry told me this but I didn't press for specifics.
Isn't that part of the reason Drake cancelled his show, though?
The fact remains that the Arena is extremely outdated and can't really be renovated like the Dome can, and it needs to be replaced.
It may not be and that's fine, but if they want to keep a professional basketball team, it will need to be.

Obviously the Memphis and Vancouver cancellations are related to the SKC

Yeah but if you question any contracts or builders she chooses, you are racist

That quote doesn't address the other cancellations at all, but you knew that.

Memphis - Venue not right
Vancouver - bad logistics with a video board
Miami - Illness
Yeah, no pattern to Drake canceling shows on a tour struggling to sell tickets. It's the venue.

Is the Arena outdated? Can it be upgraded to be on par with modern Arenas?
Or does it likely need to be replaced within the next 10-15 years?
