I don't know much about this but have many friends that work in the oil industry. Will this just effect the laborers or guys with petroleum engineering degrees or what?

It won't effect administrative assistants with large racks.

They'll be sweating, but not because of the price of oil. Amirite

Damn shame a company makes $4 Billion in profits in one quarter and still feels like it's necessary to ax THOUSANDS of jobs. I understand that they are forcasting the future, but damn 4 billion is still a hell of a profit haul. Why don't some of those executives shed some of their salary and perks?

Don't forget, most of them only have GED's, if that

They can use what's left of those 6-figure incomes to get more education and gasoline will be cheaper for their travels back and forth to school.

Win-win.

their job is to maintain profits/margins, if that means cutting jobs then that's what they do

when they don't do their job they get fired

What do yall do? I keep seeing you say that yall are busy

I'm back out in the field as of August 1st. And it will be a pay cut compared to what I've been making as a coordinator which is backward. I'll be one of the last employees of the ship goes down so at least I have a job

I'm in fabrication and we had lots of layoffs. We have top welders and fitters weedeating 40 hours a week. Picked up a few jobs here and there but nothing large scale.

Motiva does not equal just Shell, it's a JV

Motiva is actually in the works of being its own stand alone apart from Shell & SA

got three calls for jobs last week.
aug activity is high enough to bring in more people

business never decreased. it was 'anticipated' to decrease, which it did in some areas, but increased in others and now some folks are in a bind

One of the biggest problems people who have been laid off face is getting hired on somewhere else in another industry.

A friend of mine works in industrial electronics and they needed to hire some warehouse guys. They said most of the applicants were oil field experienced people. They won't hire them because they know when the price of oil goes back up those guys are gone.

This.
