BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The family of Devin Page Jr., the 3-year-old killed by a stray bullet while sleeping in bed on Tuesday, April 12, has confirmed LSU and NBA great Shaquille O’Neal will take care of the funeral expenses.
The toddler had just started preschool and loved playing with his siblings, family members said.
A memorial balloon release will be held at the Morning Star Full Gospel Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 16. The church is located at 2267 Balis Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70808.

A spokesman with the Baton Rouge Police Department said the shooting happened on Fairfields Avenue near North Foster Drive just after 11:00 p.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.

This shite just hits different when you have a toddler at home. I can’t fathom the rage I would have.

Shaq is a great man and he is always doing things like this to help families. The boy was sleeping in his bed and to die like that is ridiculous. If that was my son, I’m going straight John Wick

Shaq is a great dude. He does stuff like this all the time and never wants publicity for it. He does it because he genuinely cares.

I think Shaq is awesome and he is a great man but without looking at the article I’m guess the kid is black.
I’m just waiting till some of the leaders in the black community to do things for other cultures outside of their race. That would help bring different races and cultures together rather than continuing to focus on someone based on color.

*Prayers for the family and for the little boy.(should have said that first)

Three years old. I don't think I could ever get over that.

Shaq is the greatest ambassador of Louisiana State University we will ever see in our lifetime. He embodies so much of what I believe my time there instilled in me.

It's often hard to believe he did not grow up here or have stronger traditional ties.

Love Shaq University.

I'm willing to settle for them doing things for their own people for once.

Absolutely no problem with the Black men standing up and making leadership decisions for their community. My point was to say doing things for people they need help regardless of color makes statements that break racial barriers and allows for humans to evolve beyond color.

Shaq is a solid dude. I have an almost 3 year old and can’t even fathom. I’d be beyond broken.

Black people do things for non-black people, too. Sure, there are some that draw color lines, but there are many that like to help people of any race.

I think the problem is you're viewing "black people" as a monolith, like they're all the same. When people say shite like "Why don't black people stop shooting each other before they complain about racism?" It drives me insane because there are black folks that don't have anything to do with that shite, raise their kids, contribute to society, and love helping people, yet are lumped in with south side Chicago gangbangers simply because they have the same complexion.

Shaq has done stuff like this for white people too. He's donated to help the families of cops who were killed in the line of duty. And when George Mikan died, Shaq paid for all of his funeral expenses and promoted better benefits for old retired NBA players. Mikan (who was white along with most of the league back then) was the original "big man" in the fledgling NBA. He played center for the Minneapolis Lakers and when he died he was destitute and beset with personal and health problems. Shaq gave him a nice funeral and spoke up about his legacy and how important he was at establishing the center position.
