Surfing looks fun and all but I'm far too scared of the power of the ocean to get into that shite just to stand on a piece of plywood

So really good waves = cancel surfing competition?

If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.

The Windsurfing is ON in Oregon right now!
I was at Oceanside/Cape Meares this August and 87 mile an hour winds would be a problem.

"We will not be running the Mavericks Challenge this week and will wait for more optimum conditions. The wind is good and conditions will be clean, but the swell will be dropping through the day on Thursday and we won't have the consistency we need to run an excellent event. With three months left in the waiting period, we are confident that we'll have better opportunities to run this event this season. January is typically the best month for Mavericks so we'll be watching things closely and hoping for a great finish to the season."

Not cancelled, push back until probably in January.

And there will be some schmos fishing off the rocks at the curve by the restaurant at ocean beach sf who are swept away this week. Expecting a big storm.next weekend.

And such a to-do about it like it was magic and not just a wave and dumb fishermen.

Now they call them sneaker waves.

some guy died last time. it was even higher.

The clipped in bit suggests technical issues that surfers would appreciate. They want clean runs.
