Mother of God.
It's 68 in the day, 55 at night, and off when I'm out during the winter.
My HVAC unit turns 30 this summer.
But I'm not some kind of AC pussy. I lived on the 3rd floor of the Pentagon dorm for 5 years, including 3 summers, in the 80s before they got AC. Take a shower at night, put the fan on, I'm good to sleep. Beer helped.
My neighbor left town last winter, and we had a cold snap. I woke up to the sound of his AC freezing up when the temps dipped below 30. I jumped the fence and shut off the breaker by the unit before it seized up.
Why in the frick would someone be retarded enough to leave the AC on in the middle of the winter when they leave town?

Ive kept mine on 78 for years and it's very comfortable. But I think in South Louisiana and other humid gulf coast areas 78 is too warm. Maybe 72 or so is what y'all need.

Never give them access to your thermostat.
Soon, they will attempt to require it.

That’s a bit much, but I keep my thermostat at 76 in the summer. Your body adjusts and gets used to it after a week or so. Some nights I will bump it down to 72.

Could have been a heat pump, which does freeze in lower temps and has a thermostat to defrost itself.... So you could have fricked that dudes house, mind your business.

82 for sleeping is fine if the humidity is like 10%. This scheme does not work in humid environments where AC is needed to dry out household air to prevent mold.

What is next? They will control your stat via all the fancy Alexa's and turn your ceiling fans off as well?
