All you smart thermostat owners are gonna regret getting a smart thermostat, when they start assisting you with your energy consumption.
Never understood why you need any more than this.

This is what my father would do to us (me and my knuckleheaded brother) as punishment when we were teenagers. We earned it. Damn, that house got hot at night...

Do any of the people who came up with these numbers actually do this?

I suggest they start with all congressional and exuldcutive branch offices and take away the ability to change it from the occupants

Did you miss this the past 40 years of you life? You realize they come out with this EVERY year.

In a properly sized and functional system those temp settings would prevent as much mold as 72 degrees. A modern AC system is supposed to be sized according to the volume of the space, ambient atmospheric conditions and the content, use and sources of losses in the space. If you have ever spent any time in a space with over sized systems you will know that humidity is a problem while temperatures are very low.
I shall invite you to visit Abu Dhabi. I always set my hotel rooms as low as they'll go (Marriott) in the expectation it might get to 68 or 69. In Abu Dhabi I did that, and awoke to tile/marble walls dripping with condensation. I think I got the room under 60 degrees (outside temp 105-110 ish). I was damn impressed, even after I nearly busted my arse on the wet floor getting to the bathroom.

Eat shite and die fedprogram.
That said it's inevitable for them to force the issue.
Planning on buying a house up in New Hampshire. It's fricking nice up there and I want to beat the rush.
Maine is pretty but it's a welfare state going downhill fast.
Vermont is all old money and their useless communist children.

Be wary. Almost everyone from WI or MI talks about how great it is, "we're not like Madison/Detroit," but then the rural areas end up getting run by state laws (i.e., the urban centers) anyway. I know it's not Vermont, but I don't trust any state in New England to ... leave... me ... alone.

Obviously recommended by dipshits that don’t live south of Washington DC.
My AC goes DOWN when I sleep. Solid 68 degrees. Nice and cool.

swamp coolers work due to evaporative cooling.... as water evaporates across the wet fins as the air flows across, the air is cooled. so you are making the air cooler and no longer comparing the same feel of air temp dry vs wet
And in the process the dry air removes some of the water and introduces it into the space. If there is insufficient air flow it will become very noticeable very quick...time floors will become covered in moisture, walls and furniture will be likewise damp...part of the effect is the increased humidity in the air flow...if the air doesn't escape the moisture builds. That is why some windows or some other means of letting the moist air out of the space is required. Evaporative cooling increases indoor humidity by 5-10% of outdoor humidity...without the indcreased humidity you are merely using a fan to suck warm, dry air into the house....the effect of sweat evaporating from the skin will cool the body but the immediate air at the surface of the skin is higher in humidity than that of the air being blown across it in at the time....
