Is this “legitimate” enough? Totally official.

I know an insufferable count who believes it’s her divine right to bring her dog everywhere including coast to coast flights. She had a doctor friend of hers write a bogus letter that the dog is a medical necessity for emotional support. It’s not even trained to sit. She got the bs vest, and the letter from the doctor and she’s allowed by law to bring it anywhere.

It’s all a sham that she admits to and talks about openly like it’s funny.

No she is not. This animal is not a protected service service animal under the ADA. It has to be specifically trained to perform certain tasks related to a person's disablity. This dog is not, and she is not disabled. So F her, and everyone like her.

False. Emotional support animals are not supported or protected by the ADA.

ETA: Agree with above post. She can get fricked.

State law prohibits asking about the nature or extent of a person's disability or making inquiries as to whether a dog qualifies as a service dog.

Service dogs don’t have to be behavior trained at all, they just have to provide a specific service to a disability. However if the dog cannot behave, you are legally allowed to tell them to frick off and they are responsible for any damages.

Federal law does as well. You can ask two questions, if the dog is a service dog covered by a disability in the ADA and what service does the dog provide?

Emotional support is not a qualifying service.

That's correct. You can ask for the dog to be removed if it is out of control and the person accompanying the dog does not take effective action to control it or if the dog is not housebroken. You can ask what task the dog has been trained to perform and if the dog is required because of a disability. However, you cannot ask for documentation for proof that the dog has been certified.

Dags are better than people. I rather deal with a dag at the store than their owner.

I have a emotional support dog for my service dog, so I have two dogs with me at all times.

Maybe it was in training?
My friend is a teacher and trains Leader Dogs for the blind. He takes it to school etc to teach it how to deal with people.

I was in a bar in uptown N.O. a few months ago and a guy walks in with a 70 lb. pit bull with the harness and vest on, says it's his service dog. He goes on to explain how it will come up to him and bury it's face in his belly when his blood sugar is getting too high since he has diabetes.

Funny thing was, the guy was at least 100 lbs. overweight and was sitting at the bar drinking mixed drinks and had several over the course of time I was there----and the dog did nothing but lay there on the floor.

Why is a dog in a store or business even a problem? In most of Europe your dog is welcome everywhere even restaurants, usually they are more welcome than kids in restaurants a policy that should be adopted here.

Most states have laws that cover service dogs in training, though they can put whatever stipulations they want, so the conditions to be covered varies greatly from state to state.

Some service dog handlers depending on the situation allow people to greet their service dog. If the handler had allowed that before you got to them the dog could have thought it was still ok to greet, correction from the handler, and oh ok back to work. Service dogs no matter how well trained aren't always perfect.

Nothing from your description would lead me to think it is a fake. Which is part of the problem, you aren't sure and are asking, most people don't, it is "saw a fake service dog at the store" when it wasn't fake at all.
