I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure companies' hands are tied when it comes to someone claiming a service animal. There's no paperwork, and all they can ask is whether or not it's a service animal and what its job is. People just lie and say their mutts are service dogs.

That really sounds like something you extrapolated from rules that are actually about people, not dogs, but if that's anywhere near true it just exemplifies what an evil empire the USA has become. Glad I don't have male children.

Sue the owner and the airline. These stupid service/emotional support dogs need to go.

Nothing will come of this unless people are allowed to sue the owner or the Dr. that wrote the recommendation

Hopefully the sure the frick out of aa. They need to quit letting all these snowflakes bring they unruly pets with them everywhere. Maybe this will help tighten down on what they want to define as a service dog.

Had a dog underneath my seat on a flight last night. fricking thing farted the whole 2.5 hours.

It probably was an emotional support animal instead of a true service dog. They are very lax with those.
Hopefully they sue the crap out of AA and it caused airlines to put a stop to all the emotional support animal bullshite. Should be actual service dogs only and require documentation to prove its actually a trained service animal.

AA Link on pet policy onboard

Notable:
quote:

Your pet stays in the pet carrier and under the seat in front of you the entire flight

That passenger is responsible and broke the rules. No way that dog should have been able to bite someone.

Fully-trained service dogs may fly in the cabin at no charge if they meet the requirements.

A service animal is defined as a dog that’s individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability, including but not limited to:

Visual impairments
Deafness
Seizures
Mobility impairments
Post-traumatic stress disorder

Our team members are trained to ask certain questions to determine if your animal is a service animal acceptable for travel.

Please note, service animals in training, emotional support animals, and comfort animals may travel as pets, not as service animals. All requirements and applicable fees will apply.

Actual emotional support animals I understand because I had to do training for it when I worked at an airline. However just like with anything people take advantage of it.

Years ago a singer tried bringing their 2 dogs on the plane and was refused....after a while one of their handlers said that the dogs were emotional support animals....we asked for documentation....they didn't have it.....called a doctor and the doctor faxed documentation to us. After that we knew the system was going to be fricked.

I kid you not: last time I was making at connection at Atlanta Hartsfield, I saw a guy walking the terminal with what I can assume was an “emotional support” pit bull. Yes, a pit bull! How on earth would security let a dangerous dog roam an airport much less board a plane.

And yeah, his jeans were down at his knees and you could see his designer boxers.

Peak Atlanta.

My personal opinion: if you are too emotionally fragile to handle flying without having a furry animal (which doesn’t want to be there) by your side, either drive to your destination or sit your arse at home until you get over your mental illness.

That's not why the emotional support animal deal started. It had more to do with say children who lost family in a fire or accident and the only thing that survived was the animal and being removed from the animal was a problem for the child.

How is this their fault? If they deny the dog, then they get sued for not letting a "service" animal onboard.

There was a video posted to the internet a few days ago where a dog was attacking a small dog and some guy runs up and just starts sticking his fingers in the dogs arse.

Yeah companies (most every kind) are kinda over a barrel with it. You deny the animal and get blasted on social media.....allow the animal and it bites someone and you get blasted on social media.
