I have always wondered how a regular citizen can obtain one. From what I have researched, the primary holders of secret clearances are usually military. You can get one by working a job that can grant you one. However, how do you get into these jobs in the first place.

Not as hard as you think. Be a contractor and don't be a menace.

You're recruited. Normally out of military, or college.

Nothing really that important to gain access anyway.

Visit London and happen to be in the right place when an IRA splinter group tries to kill the Prince and Princess of Wales. Foil the plot.

I believe the common way is through a job. I've literally been asked to apply for a job based on the fact that I have a clean record. I didn't even know what the job was and was more than likely not qualified otherwise. I've always wondered if it was that hard to find people who could get clearance.

I think the company has to agree to sponsor and pay for the cost of the clearance. The cost is pretty damn high

Work for the department of defense as a civilian servant or as a contractor.

To get a clearance, you can get a gov't job. So your question is, how do I get a gov't job?

Be black or female. Be black and female and you're a lock.

Had to take a lie detector test. It was my first job and I will never do that again. the private contractor I worked for who had a contract with the Department of Defense is still to this day the most corrupt and wasteful organization I have ever witnessed. They know how to bring the suits in and spit a good game though.

That lines up with what I read with articles on various security clearance jobs.

My problem is that I do not know what I need to do to start the process. Do I have to join the military. Why are their citizens with it, there must be some loophole.
